Never bought a pistol from a website, and when i get to check out it asks me to pick a ffl in my zipcode. So i just select one i know of and go pick up the pistol in a few days or do i need to ask permission first or what? Pistol sitting in shopping cart right now.

If you recognize a local FFL, and know they do transfers, and know they are not fussy about what kind of gun is transferred to them, yea, it's that easy.  My local FFL has an interactive web page where I send them a message detailing the incoming firearm, so that they know to expect it and plan for it, and have a record.  At the very least, I would call your local FFL to let them know it's on the way.  If you can wait till Monday, it may be even be more courteous to call them first, but you may already know their business practices and preferences.

You better ask before you have a pistol shipped there. What kind of fees. Is it even OK? Once you purchase it its yours and that dealer has complete control.

Always tell the FFL beforehand...one time I didn't and placed the order first only to discover the FFL burned down a few days earlier. Luckily I was able to contact Bud's prior to shipment. You also want to ask them if they accept transfers from individuals and not just other FFL's. And lastly your FFL might request a license from an individual or a copy of the FFL if sent from another FFL.

And the final oddball: I contact a local FFL using this method and the guy freaks out with "how the hell did you get my contact info? blah blah blah"...it was on Gunbroker!

Every FFL is a bit different about transfers.  If this is your first time using them for a transfer, I'd call them first.

I have a few local that are cool, so I just place the order and in a few days they call me and say I can come get it.  Some sites, like AIM, have a list of dealers that have already agreed to do transfers for orders from AIM.  I think buds does this too.  But its always good to ask the FFL before you do this the first time.
