I have several websites of my own right now but my most populated has 2500 registered members and gets another 1000 unique hits per month for a total of about 7-10k page views monthly. I could make them jump through hoops for the free tickets and increase page views to over 30k if I wanted to. The people who come to our site come for the free giveaways of movie passes to advanced screenings of which we give away about 10,000 per year. We are not allowed to charge for the passes in any way shape or form but can use them to promote whatever else we might have. Problem is that we can not get our members to purchase anything that we offer them. So I had a thought about rebuilding the site to be able to sign up local businesses to have a profile in our new business directory and allow them to hold giveaways to draw traffic to their business profile and hopefully their site. I figure if the members only want free shit than we should give it to them right? Would any of you small business owners offer a giveaway with a minimum value of $25 to drive traffic to a business profile? How much would you pay for that service say in conjunction with an email blast to the members with your offer and an advertorial about your business to over 2500 local residents? What if we had 10k members what would you pay for that? Im thinking $10 monthly fee for the listing with a 1 year minimum and $100 to run the giveaway. Businesses could run a giveaway every month if they wanted. and the more free shit we give away the more new members we will get for them to market too. Fuck man, I have spent 3.5 years on this site and still haven't been able to make any money from it. Spent a metric shit ton on it though  UPDATE: Launched the new site....reviews from our members have been great. going to make a few tweaks, do you guys have any suggestions? Some thoughts:
Team up with a media company and offer 30 second commercials for a fixed price. Split the profit, sell to businesses. Have this display during the registration process. Track page views with google analytics, use this to justify price as well as track results. Use a CMS backend to change out your content, try surrealcms. The prices seem fair enough, but it doesn't seem like enough to entice business unless you couple it with a few other services. I'd say that 50-100 dollar range for the equivalent of direct mail is not a bad idea!! |
