Question to the masses.

I am currently a Sophmore in College.. and I need to attend the fall semester because I had skipped a semester last year (bad move).

Anyway.. I was told that there are advantages to joining up with the NG, prior to going into a ROTC program. (I guess it covers the first training session?) Plus, I get a good discount off my tution from the college If I am in.

Is it possible, to join up, and have a agreement with the guard that I can't be activated for any over seas duties until I am officially out of college? (I plan on going through the ROTC program anyway).

And.. if I am in the guard, how does that transfer over to the ROTC program?

Insight would be awesome, thanks.

That's funny. In a word...no.

Pick one or the other. Trying to do both sounds like a recipie for disaster.

Five or six years ago, it would have been a great idea.

Absolutely.  Not a Problem.

Do an 09-R option.  This gets you through BCT, then you enter ROTC as a cadet and SMP (simultaneous membership program) and you get NG money for school and ROTC money for school.  Since you have no MOS, you cannot be activated.  But if you do not accept your commission, you must attend an AIT as an enlisted man.

Go talk to your ROTC local recruiter, he will know what you need to do.

You can, if clever, stretch the 09S option as well.

But ROTC is the way I'd suggest.

join the guard through ROTC in the simulaneous membership program, you can't get called up until you finish college and ROTC
