I was at my bow hunters farm yesterday hanging game cameras and moving stands. I was planing on staying two nights. I call my wife after supper to check in and she informs me that I have a doctors appointment at the VA today that I had forgot about. I go to bed thinking about all the guys I knew that were either drafted or enlisted from my high school, and thinking about my HS buddies that were killed in Vietnam.
I started wandering about what happened to a buddy that was drafted a year after I enlisted. I haven't seen this guy in 44 years, I heard he was wounded in Nam. This was the first time I thought of him in decades. Fast forward to this morning, I'm at the VA clinic waiting to see the doctor and in walks this old guy using a walker and carrying an oxygen bottle. I guessed his age to be late 70's ( I'm 62 ). The nurse called his name, Alan C. That's my buddy's name, I thought no way he's to old, then he turns and I look straight at his face and it is him. Life has been rough for him. I didn't speak to him I was kind of shocked to see him in this condition. I have had this creepy feeling all day long. What's your story? |
