I'm in need of a little help. I bought a welder at a pawn shop and don't know how to adjust the voltage (or much else for that matter) on it. The three pronged star thingy just spins off and doesn't seem to do anything else. Anyone have any experience with these things? It's a schummacher mega 140.

I tried to find the manual on Schumacher's eb site, but couldn't find one. This machine's model number is 90702. You might have to call them directly.

The machine has a high, medium, and low setting.  This is Ampereage.  The voltage is controlled by the distance from the end of the rod to the work.  The ampereage knob shouldn't spin.  It should have three dedicated settings on a little "buzz box"  like that.  If it spins, you need to check to see if the handle is striped out or a set screw has backed off.

Thanks for the number. I tried the website first for the owners manual. I'll try the dial an idiot if the hobart website fails. Appreciate all the help.

Never heard of Schumacher welders.  My dad has a Lincoln, they are the best of the business, next to Miller.  Don't ever buy Hobart, they are nothing but shit.

The knob at the upper left says 115v/off/230v but will not move to the 230v spot. The knob spins off but there is a 11/16 nut on the shaft behind it. they seem to do nothing. At the top of the box there is an indicator that goes from 40 amps to 140 amps. it indicates 140, but I can't figure out how to move it. Does that make any more sense?

Umm,
Hobart is Miller.

the Handler 135 is one of the best 110V GMAW machines out there.

Thanks guys! The nut behind the handle needed to be tightened against the handle, not the face of the welder as it was. I think I got it now!

You are an idiot.

Please enlighten us with your  wealth of knowledge as to why Hobart welders are shit. I have a Beta-Mig 2150 @ work and it is a damn fine machine
