I need some help with welding thin walled Titanium.. Just some background.. I have been welding for about 12 years and have my AWS G3-G4 unlimited certs. I have no problems with TIG at all an often weld very thin walled stainless tube. (At as low as 4 amps) I have some rather thin walled Titanium I need to weld up for a motorcycle exh. system. Wall thickness is .045" I have made a trailing gas shield and plan on doin the wels in a old sand blasting glove box filled with Argon. Will the Sand blasting glove box work? If I keep it at positive pressure and fllod the piss out of it with argon I think I should be able to keep almost all of the O2 out.. The trailing gas shiel is pretty hoopty but with such a thin wall the weld should cool fast and shouldn't be a problem.. I have read that a 2% tungston should work just fine... Any ideas and tips would be very helpful... Thanks |
