I've never ate it before. The only Wendy's that used to be around here hasn't been around for several years now.
One day they were just gone. I've had their burgers before and they just weren't that good to me. The only chili that I've ever ate was the homemade brand. Pass. |

Quoted: I talked to a wendies employee about it. Basically they will throw any extra burgers they cooked in to the fridge, chop em up some and throw that in to the chili. And sometimes they will cook more just for the chili if they dont have enough. T I did ask if it was uncooked burgers that where about to expire and he said no. They go thru enough it never gets to the throw away date. View Quote Bolded parts are true, the rest is BS. I made many many pots of chili there. It's really a great system; you always need hamburgers cooking on the grill, but when business suddenly slows, the hamburgers get dried out and overcooked, so instead of serving them you simply toss them into a refrigerated bin in back of the grill. When it fills, you wrap it up and toss into the fridge. Next morning, the opening crew has several bins of hamburger to chop up for the chili, but if there's not enough then yup they have to grill up some more hamburger. If they run out of chili that day, somebody will have to go make some more; so there's no "best" time to buy chili except maybe early. But that was a long time ago. I used to love their chili, but now I think it's too heavy on tomatoes and not enough chili powder & cumin. |

Quoted: Is there any truth to that ? I remember hearing that rumor many years ago. View Quote I know a guy that worked there for a few years. He said they absolutely use leftover/unsold burgers. That was 30 years ago. I have to imagine that nowadays it is made in a factory and shipped out in bags, just to get heated up at the "restaurant"? |

It's pretty good. We had a guy 'sneak' some into a chili competition at work. He took Second Place with it!

Wendy's uses fresh unfrozen hamburger so it doesn't have the shelf life of frozen patties. They are always frying new burgers and put them in a warmer pan after cooking. They get taken out the pan almost immediately and served. There is a constant flow of patties being cooked. At the end of the lunch rush left over patties go into chili, so it doesn't actually sit long before going into chili. After chili is cooked it goes to the cooler to be reheated next day.
Now depending on the owner and location some Wendy's are nasty and some are immaculate. I used to service all their refrigeration and heating equipment and deal with health inspections and keeping things at temp. |

I actually like the stuff and used to eat it pretty often but now it goes straight through me. There was a Wendy's 2 blocks from my office. I walked up there, had a bowl of chili, barely made it back to the office.
I didn't think anything of it, figured I ate something bad elsewhere, then it happened again. That's enough, I am in fact trainable. Maybe I'll grab a can for when I get stopped up. |

Wendy's will sell you a tub of chili. It is not on the menu. It is called the "Family Sized" Chili.
I once won a chili contest with it. I added some extra ground beef I cooked, a can of red beans, and some Texas Pete. I threw it all in crock pot and let it cook for about 2 hours. I think the prize was a $10 gift card to the Piggly Wiggly. I gave it to the second place person and told her she deserved it. |

Will there be half of an old burger in it like at the restaurant?

Also when storing the large pot, two 1 gallon frozen water jugs are tossed in to quick chill then off into the fridge. Throughout the day this lil Asian guy named Chu would throw old patties in there. It seemed like everyone that worked there was fat as fuck too lol |

I wish my mom were still alive to see this. She loved Wendy's chili but it's hard to get here in Florida.

Quoted: Coming to your grocery store! Fast food chain Wendy's has announced that it is teaming up with Conagra Brands to bring its "beloved" chili menu item into grocery stores around the U.S. Wendy's Chili with Beans will hit store shelves this spring with a suggested retail price of $4.99 per can. "We are thrilled to partner with Wendy's and bring a fan-favorite to homes nationwide," Juliette van de Walle, prepared chili brand lead at Conagra Brands, said in a Wednesday statement. "We worked closely with Wendy's culinary team to ensure we brought through the indulgent flavors and delicious ingredients of the Chili that has been a long-time staple on the Wendy's menu." Conagra says each can of chili is "loaded with 29g of protein per can, savory all-natural beef, and the perfect mix of peppers, beans, and a rich tomato-based sauce." https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/wendys-chili-coming-grocery-stores https://a57.foxnews.com/static.foxbusiness.com/foxbusiness.com/content/uploads/2023/04/1440/810/Wendys-Chili.png?ve=1&tl=1 View Quote Well, if they do to that chili what they did to Wolf Brand chili, it will not be beneficial to Wendy's. For those that are unaware, ConAgra took over Wolf Brand Chili and changed a lot of the actual beef in it over to textured vegetable protein because it was cheaper to produce. Completely ruined the chili I grew up with. |

We infrequently go to Wendy's. However, a couple of times I got a couple of extra containers of chilli.
Put it in the freezer and later used it a hot dog topping. Not too bad that way. |

Quoted: Is there any truth to that ? I remember hearing that rumor many years ago. View Quote yes, they keep a certain amount of patties cooking at all times so if someone comes in they can have a fresh hot burger almost ready to go and when the patties on the grill get a certain age, they go into the chili/dog treat pan to be made into chili the next day. |

It takes me around $30 to make a full crock pot of my chili and I don't use ground beef. Roast or stew meat, 3 different beans, a mix of peppers including Reapers and habaneros.
It's hot, sweet and smoky. Has won cookoffs. A lot less salt and preservatives than in canned chili. I can get 10-12 freezer bowls from one run in the crock pot. Wendy's is ok (my local outfit is) but homemade is definitely better. |
