I've really come to appreciate the simple A1 rifle style. Very nice.
I have to put together one with polymer furniture at some point; mine has wood.

The idea is they prevent the pins from spinning around and wearing out the pin holes while firing. In theory after enough rounds through any AR you would enlarge the holes to the point where the spec pins would no longer fit and you'd then have to use larger (thicker) pins. They are for show on that AR if I'm honest, but a lot of guys with registered M16 machine gun lowers use them because they don't want to wear a transferable receiver out. |

Mk18 is a close second, with the XM177 taking top for retro, but I'm pretty sure that I'd have to go with the Mk 12 Mod H as the all time best looking AR15 ever made. Not mine, belongs to Ben Chau Photography, but it's the best pic I've ever seen.
