That is technically a MGMC M-16(A1)

They Converted "standard" M-3 halftracks by adding the Maxon Quad .50 turret in the rear..

The way you spot the difference between the two is Factory Built Original M-16 MGMC had (A) hinged top armor and (B) a PTO Wench on a longer front "brush guard type" bumper.

The M-16(A1) like your image didn't have the hinged armor at the top, and usually retained the "Ditch Roller" at the front instead of the PTO Wench (a lot of work).

I am 100% with you that a Halftrack with Quad .50s is Kick Ass Cool, any way you cut it...

Common Big Lottery Win!!  Daddy needs a Meat Chopper like that!!

Thanks for the lesson!   I had a model as a kid and was fascinated by the idea of a quad .50 in a halftrack.

I'm a big fan of the CUCV M1009 Blazers and M1008A1 pickups.  I always thought that of all the "common" military vehicles when I was in, those two had a coolness factor beyond anything else, not counting the wing commanders' big Broncos I saw in Korea or the U-2 chase vehicles.

The CUCVs are ONLY Chevys I would buy if I wanted a military vehicle and I do get a kick out of seeing the handful that are owned locally.

Kettenkrad.  It must have taken balls to actually design a halftrack motorcycle.

If it was "one you could own", I've always been a huge fan of the M37.

Trust me, you don't.

They're neat and all but they suck to work on and parts availability is shit.

I drove mine around on the trails at Big Bend a few years ago with General Grabber AT tires and didn't get it stuck.

With an aftermarket cruise control, it's pretty comfortable to drive on the highway.
