Funny how every pipe smoker goes through phases where we look for the next great blend. I keep trying to find an aromatic I like, or a VaPer that I like, but keep going back to balkan blends. I guess it's the orientals suit my taste. I really like C&D blends. I also like supporting a small business from South Carolina. Smoking Pipes has a sale on their Low Country blends that might take more money out of my pocket this week. |

Perhaps I'll check out some of the Low Country stuff. |

It was pretty damp when I opened the tin, so I let some sit out in an old cigarillo tin to dry up a bit and I definitely like it.

Opened a tin of Mad Fiddler Flake today. Oh my! The tin note is so in your face. smokes great and has more than enough Perique in it! And I love it more than my other VaPers. Very complex flavor! Definitely is going on my short list! Attached File |

| Seattle Pipe Club “Hogshead”. A combination of aged and unaged Virginias pressed into a plug. Despite its many positive reviews, I’ll be glad when I’m done with it. A very middle of the road Virginia that lacks both sweetness and bright citrus present in some of my favorites. Rubbed out, the leaves have a soapy feel and it requires a lot of drying to get it burning well without bite. |

Bulk C&D Bayou Morning va/per in my new-to-me Brebbia. Usually I don’t go much for cube cut stuff, but this is an acceptable exception. And it’s available in a couple local shops when nothing else they have will do.

| I tried* smoking more of the Mac Baren dark twist/roll cake last night. I could not keep it lit and there was definitely some tongue bite. I think it's too wet, even after letting it sit out for a day. I probably also packed the bowl a little too tight. I've heard that Mac Baren stuff tends to be pretty damp, has anyone else had issues with their blends? |

Damp? yeah, probably, but almost everything is too damp when I first open the tin, so I don't remember much about Mac Baren specifically being too wet. Of course the wetter it is, you're steam-broiling your tongue as you try to keep it lit.
