I like spooky movies, not gory flicks.
Last night we watched THE FOG (the original from 1980). Not a great movie but a fun movie to kick off the Halloween season. SLEEPY HOLLOW (w/ Johnny Depp) DARK SKIES (2013) STORM OF THE CENTURY TRIANGLE (2009) Any movie about the “Bermuda Triangle”. I’m not a believer in the supernatural explanations, I just like the stories. I also re-watch the entire DEAD LIKE ME series. |

The Burbs
Maybe not formally a Halloween movie but it works for me. |

I like stories about The Headless Hessian myth around Halloween.
Sleepy Hollow is a very good recent telling with that Kentuckian Johnny Depp. Interesting write up on “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” |

Halloween 1978
The Fog 1980 Prince of Darkness 1987 Hocus Pocus The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with Jeff Goldblum (campy but fun) Sleepy Hollow 1999 House on Haunted Hill 1999 Those usually get played a couple of times throughout October. Also, all of hollyweird's Carpenter remakes suck donkey ass. Rob Zombie's Halloween was dog shit and he should have stuck with music. |

Tossup between Hocus Pocus and Nightmare Before Christmas. Sue me, I’m a big fan of Tim Burton.

View Quote This. It takes me back to my childhood, and the magic this time of year seemed to hold for me growing up in a maple and sycamore covered suburbia. It's definitely #1 and if I don't see it it's almost like I missed Halloween. But, I like 'em all, really: zombie movies, vampire movies, etc, and especially the original Halloween by John Carpenter, which is probably #2. I just feel like Hocus Pocus is a guilty pleasure because of the woke bitch that is Bette Midler, but probably #3. Anyone see the ad they're running for it lately? It's a take on "Please help the pets" type commercials, really well done. Also special mention for Trick'r'Treat, Sam is the man. |

Original Night of the Living Dead in black and white.
Halloween. |

I figured I'd get laughed at, but Hocus Pocus. I was about the right age when that one was released (at least young enough I had to ask my dad was a virgin was, yet still old enough to appreciate the nice yabbos) and it's stuck with me, and my daughters love it.

Every Halloween night I watch Night of the Living Dead. I've been watching it (almost) every Halloween since I was a kid and first saw it on a little black & white tv on Halloween night. I must have been around 8 or 9 years old.

I have an App on my phone that ties movies into my Phillips Hue lights (color ones). If you start the App at the exact second the Phillips Hue lights will change with the lighting in the scenes of the movie. Not all of them are sync'd well and some times the timing is just a bit off, but one of the real good ones that does work well is with the movie "Insidious". Oh man, when the lights start flashing and the lights are flashing on screen and they turn red and other colors to match it really draws you into the film serving to really amplify every scare. It's great stuff.
Phillips Hue has a box now that will perfect sync in with what's on screen, but it's like $200 and I haven't bought it yet. Might have to do so for this season. |
