That's what I thought that the OP was looking for.
In the early 1980's it was $3.99 for a 24 can case.
Then the governor of PA started adding 'sin taxes' to alcohol.

I'd bring a 30 pack to parties.  People for the most part wouldn't touch it even when the all of the other beer was gone and those foolish enough to grab one would take less than a sip and leave it for me to find nearby later. i.e. I never ran out of beer at the party.

PBR is very much alive and well in my area.  As is Coors Banquet.  Lesser degree you'll see Schlitz and Hamm's, but they aren't prevalent nor drank much.

Love Red Dog beer.

Rainier beer is another that disappeared.

That was a staple beer around my family gatherings in the 80's. Probably the first beer I ever tasted as a kid.

IiRC, we used to get warm longnecks for two-something a case. Sometimes we iced them down, sometimes we didn't want to waste a buck on ice.

Schmidt's of Philadelphia was my dad's beer of choice.

ETA: A number of years ago, I was in contact via email with a guy that was attempting to bring the brand back.
I'm not sure why, looking back it wasn't really all that good.

The 80's? You'd wear out ten pairs of shoes looking for a beer snob back then. They grilled meat well done after a day of actual work and they drank Pabst, Miller, and Budweiser which you can still get today.

PBR isn't bad at all when compared to Bud, Coors, etc.  The only one that is awful if fucking Miller.

This does prove, since OP never sees it, that PBR is the most heterosexual mainstream beer.

PBR is available at damn near every place that sells alcohol.

It's cheap and tastes like shit. I don't personally know anybody who drinks it but somebody must be buying it.

Does Walgreens still market their own beer? I bought a sixer when it came out because at $2.99 I wasn't not going to try it. It was pretty much what I expected and 5 cans sat in my fridge for the better part of a year before I tossed them.

I'm the farthest thing from a beer snob. I like a good cheap American lager. Had my first PBR at 17 in AIT in GA. While it's cheap and tastes like ass. it's better than Buckhorn.

Here's another cheap bad one from my youth

Yeah, I know plenty of hipsterish folks in their 20's and 30's into the whole PBR revival thing.

I even know some peers of mine (50+) into it.

I've tried it and think it tastes like piss...With all the great beers and microbrews out there I don't get why people turn to that stuff

I have PBR in my fridge right now.

PBR is actually one of the better beers at the low price point. Years ago my buddies and I would do blind taste tests with beer- mostly because it was fun. PBR would consistently fall near the top. PBR has a more hoppy flavor than Bud, Coors, etc.

I drank a 12 pack of Busch Light over the weekend so I'm hardly a sophisticate when it comes to beer.

PBR is nasty stuff IMO and I'm the type of guy that will drink Steel Reserve at a kids birthday party.
