None of the problems you mentioned are platform specific to ARs. Shotguns have gas problems. Pumps have feeding issues. Every firearm has springs and small parts. Every firearm requires lubricant. No AR, I would really only fee comfortable with a semi auto mag fed 5.56 quality rifle, aug, favor, scar, ect. Honestly there is no reason not to have an AR at this point.
Shotguns have a place and that is hunting or door breaching. Wielding something that heavy and slow to reload with limited capacity is a death sentence in all but a couple scenarios. If your talking full on riot without rule of law scenario you would be very lucky to survive. |

Ideally something belt fed, even if it was semi-auto. In dreamland I'll take a M249 or similar.
In the real world; I think a 7.62x39 Draco is about as good as you'll do. I thought about a PCC like an MPX or similar, but the penetration of the AK tips it for me. Realistically; I think either one gives everyone on the other end a lot of second thoughts. even more realistically, a 10/22 with the freedom to use it in whatever way necessary would probably be enough for 99% of the situations. |
