Let destiny run it's course and you will be shown which route to take.

How long do you have to make a decision?
Are you good at what you do?
Will you be as good at LE?

If you are religious, pray to your god to show you the way.

What do YOU think you should do?
Good luck....

do what is best for you.  make a decision you can be happy with in ten years.  you want to be able to look back and say "man, I'm glad I did that!"

If you're not happy, all the money in the world wont matter.

depending on where you live most cops don't make anything close to that.

do you need money?

See if a local department (city or county) has a reserve officer program that way you can follow your dream and not be in the poorhouse.  I have been a reserve deputy sheriff for 13 years and on their special response team, its great.

If your already burnt out then more money would just delay the inevitable.  Not sure that is worth it.

I am currently going through the hiring process for a LE agency.  I passed my background and have an appointment for my poly next.  I’m pretty confident that I will get the job which has been my dream my whole life.  If I get hired as a LEO I would be making a career change and taking a 40k cut in pay.

Now for the problem.  I was offered a job today for 75k/yr plus bonuses.  This is from an old boss of mine doing what I’ve been doing for the last 15-years.  I am burnt out and really wish to finally follow my dream, but the offer was good and I need money to pay bills.  I think I could work my way up to making that much as a LEO, but it would take a few years.

What would any of you do in this situation?

Take the job and volunteer as a cop.

You are out of your F'n mind. I've been on the job for 19 years. I've been promoted twice. I still don't make $75K. You say you need money to pay the bills but you are ready to take a 40K hit? You are out of your F'n mind.

You will be very sorry if you don't go to work for the old boss.

Money matters and LE work isn't all it's dreamed to be.

That is the route alot of professionals take.  Lots of doctors, lawyers and tech people are reserve cops in their free time.  There is still a substantial commitment to go through the backgrounds and academy - but you get the best of both worlds.

I will tell you up front that some full time cops tend to look down on weekend warriors.

With OT, we have quite a few "six figure" street cops.

Most of the guys I know make 80-90k.  Cost of living here is another story.
