Looks like the server my host uses is under DDOS attack WTF does that mean?

DDOS stands for Distributed Denial of Service. As was stated before, it's an attack involving multiple computers repeatedly requesting information from the server. This overloads it and locks it up. Pretty common hacker trick. Was used on 4chan.org for example to deny access to /b/ |

You're right, thanks for correcting me. Don't really know why I typed Direct. My bad ![]() |

DDOS stands for Direct Denial of Service. Distributed Denial of Service Attack as opposed to a Denial of Service Attack in which a single host attacks the victim to cause it to crash or be unable to access the network, a distributed denial of service attack uses multiple hosts which are usually part of a "bot net" to target that single host. in today's world, DDoS are much more common and effective. it typically works like this: - bad hacker writes a trojan which has no visible ill effects to a user - trojan is distributed through normal virus channels (movies, software, etc) or through remote code execution exploit - bad hacker has a client that communicates with all of the "zombies" on these infected machines - bad hacker wants to kill rival hacker's computer - bad hacker inputs rivals IP into client - client wakes up all the zombies - simultaneously all of the zombies send floods of packets at the victim host - victim host or network cannot handle this flood of traffic and either crash or system resources are so greatly consumed that the host/network are useless |

Looks like the server my host uses is under DDOS attack WTF does that mean?Distributed denial of service..... A non-distributed denial of service is like one bratty kid asking a continuous stream of BS questions in class, so the teacher can't get any work done.... A 'distributed' denial of service is like that kid getting all his friends (or the entire class) to do it too.... In the computer world, it's done by basically clogging a computer's connection (or the processing capabilities of a given application) with requests or junk data...... DDoS is usually accomplished by distributing the attack-software with a virus or worm, then having the infected machines attack a given target... |
WTF does that mean?
