Teenagers are, generally speaking, fucking retarded. Proceed accordingly.

To me it means "yadda, yadda, yadda" or "and so on," or it's meant to imply your words trailing off... that sort of thing.
|
|
When used at the end of a sentence it pretty much always comes off as indicating that the author has more to say but is intentionally not saying it.
“Are you mad?” “No…” And so forth. It drives me up a wall when people use it in business/professional correspondence because you can never tell if they are butthurt about something or if it’s just a quirk of theirs. “I’ll take care of it…” sounds much more loaded than, “I’ll take care of it.” “Is there still an all-company meeting today?” “Yep…” |

New words and phrases are normal to develop groupspeak but I think the 24/7 internet pressured it far beyond the pace of the past. Still it's necessary to communicate. $$$ or allowances etc

Lack of attention spans and declining education on proper grammar...

Ellipses are commonly used to indicate truncated words. For example if you were to clip off the beginning or end of a long sentence that you quoted.
"... Arfcom looked even more retarded than usual." |

This post is as retarded as gen z. Ellipses already have a meaning, and it isn’t some kind of passive aggressive “I’m angry” implication…

Going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing it stems from text and specifically when you're talking to a female and see .... for a period of time. You know that a long diatribe on the many and sundry ways that you've fucked up is being composed.

Quoted: I thought ... ment ect. For example, I am going to Walmart, running errands... My 19 year old says ... means you are mad. Is he right? If so when did this change occur? Also if so, that is stupid. I know, 57 year old shouts at clouds. View Quote A: Hey man you were really terrible today. Were you up too late sucking homeless dicks? B: ... A: haha ok guess you were So instead of saying, "I'm not even going to dignify your question with an answer." You just say ... instead to convey that somebody is being incredulous or ridiculous. But that's not THE ONLY context for an ellipsis, and your son is completely and utterly ignorant (and I'm sorry but not quick on the uptake when deciphering context) if he thinks that the only use/context for it is to say you're mad. That's a little concerning. Anybody with any common sense would see somebody else using a word/phrase/expression in a new way and would do what you're doing and seek to educate themselves. It reminds me of that idiot at some local government meeting that screamed racism when somebody said the budget was a black hole. |

Every generation has its slang, but is it just me or does this generation coming up have far more than normal?
It's getting to be like ebonics. |

These damn kids - old guys
I get it OP. According to my 18 year old... When texting and you use ok, it means "whatever". "K" means I'm pissed. "KK" means a good "okay". And no one uses "okay" or punctuation. |

The AR15 is a firearm that's both fun and useful to use, especially when it's been modified with various sights and mounts.
The AR15 is a firearm that's both fun and useful to use... The ellipsis indicates that part of a sentence or a paragraph was omitted. That is all. |

OP, you're not alone in your inability to keep up with this inane bullshit.
I was informed by my wife the other day that using a period in a text is a form of passive aggressiveness. It's utterly stupid. I'm middle aged and I write for a living. I use proper punctuation. Get the fuck over it. I think the best part of all is that when I use voice to text with Android Auto, my truck automatically adds in periods. |
