super accurate temps dont always equal bbq success. I would still prefer a fat guy in in overalls and a secret recipe cooking BBQ for me over a computer controlled thermostat. No but temps bouncing around like some big ole titties is sure to spell disaster. |

Quoted: I'll have agree with that. Nothing better than smoking s butt to perfection...................... It may take some time but BBQ (Forgive me for using that term) is the nectar of the gods!!!!!!!!!!Quoted: Someone's jealous they don't have one or didn't think of it first. Meh, I actually like tending to the fire and learning the art of the 'Q'. If it is all automatic, might as well go out to dinner at a local BBQ joint. |

If it is all automatic, might as well go out to dinner at a local BBQ joint. If anyone saw the first season of BBQ Pitmasters there were several people using these during the competition cooking. They are far from automatic and less than reliable. You still have to control and feed the fire, watch the meat, and watch to make sure the control unit is working properly. The only thing these units do is put the temperature on autopilot once you get everything up and stable. |

And who needs bullets when pointy sticks worked so well for so long? ![]() Personally, between my job, family, and a few other things, finding time to babysit a brisket or a pork butt for 12+ hours is a bit of a challenge at times. I have had a BBQ Guru for several years and find it extremely useful. It's a tool and doesn't guarantee that you'll get excellent BBQ just because you use it. I still have control over the type/amount of smoke, seasonings, cut/quality of meat, etc. and my meat comes out better than the local BBQ joints around here. |

That's generally why I build things. |
