| Not which brand your department MAKES you use, (if that's the case) but which operational design do you like better? |
Nice...it's bad enough you won't give them back..now your flaunting it in front of me that you still have them! ![]() ![]() We use peerless hinged almost exclusively. I've used S&W and my only complaint is the double lock design. I find it awkward to engage and disengage! |
THIS Detention Officer likes Peerless. I dislike the slot double lock on S&W. Of course, guess which brand the department has thousands of pairs of and we use nearly exclusively? |
Yes, I have a co-worker who thinks they're the shiznit. I am concerned about the polymer constuctions. The pivot hinge is mostly plastic and it looks as if a shitbag tried the ol seat belt tab into the hinge area and pry technique would be alot easier to do..... I hope I'm wrong. |
Same concern that I have. I was thinking about getting a pair for a "torture test", to see how they hold up. |
No way I'm paying for a pair that I suspect will be easy to defeat. I'll send them a note asking for a T&E sample and see if they'll play.... |
Good idea! ETA: email sent to ASP. I'll let you know what they say. |
You shouldn't have let him wear them home. |
I have a pair. I was in one of the first training groups in the country for their instructor course (ASP restraint Instructor) and they gave each one of us a pair. I love the things. The polymer is an overcoat with metal underneath. The six people in my department that went to the training all said the same thing-plastic handcuffs, yeah right. I'm telling you these things are awsome. Most cops I know cary their cuffs "loaded" (single arm pushed into double almost all the way). With these you don't have to do that-very smooth action. They are also designed to fit larger wrists, have key holes on both sides and you only have to turn the key one direction to unlock them even if they were double locked. The one complaint I have with them is they do not fit in a standard leather cuff case. ASP gave us a case (has a spare key built into the back) but it is some plastic shit with a basketweave imprint. I hate it and it doesn't match my all leather belt. |
Thanks for the info. |

For those using Peerless cuffs, just be care with them. I had a pair, Model 500, fail on me this year when 'pin' let go (and 'walked itself out of the cuff) internally and basically let one cuff open. Thankfully this did not create a problem withthe arrest situation. I believe this is why all of Peerless' new cuffs, the Model 700, have double ended rivets instead of the old pins. I wrote a nasty letter to Peerless and sent them back the defective Model 500 cuffs and they sent me the new updated Model 700 cuffs. Since that incident, both Peerless cuffs have been placed in the trunk. I know carry the black version of the S&W cuffs, and love them. |
I wouldn't use anything but cuffs and a belly chain for a in front transport. No chains = cuffed in back. The S&W 103s, Peerless 700 seem to be preferred and hold up better than the Hiats(sp). Whatever you do keep them clean, and if they get old and beat get rid of them. The old ones can be defeated easier. |
