[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Which .45? (Page 1 of 2)

| I have some extra funds won at the casino and would like another .45 to go with my Colt 1911 and HK Tactical. I have narrowed it down to 2 choices. A SIG 220 and a Kimber CDP II Carry Pro. The SIG I can get for about $500-600 and the Kimber I found a dealer that will let me have it for $950 shipped. Time to vote! |

I have a 1911 (SA 1911A1) and I really like it. I thought that I wouldn't need another .45-I've often said, right here on this board-that NO handgun collection is complete without a 1911. THEN..............I had the opportunity to shoot a P220. Call me prejudiced because I already own a Sig, but now I gotta have a P220. No, I won't be getting rid of the 1911. |

I have a P220 for work carry. It's my 2nd as the first one, a west german gun wasnt a very reliable pistol. My 2nd has been a perfectly reliable runner since day one. The P220 doesnt fit my hand very well but it is a good, solid pistol. That said, it's a very distant back seater to any decent 1911 for me. In all honesty I like my springer GI better than the P220 and I simply shoot single action pistols better. Neither pistol is a bad choice, pick whichever feels best to you. If my Sig is ever de-authorized for work I'll sell/trade it for another M1911. It's all in what you like better. Btw, does the Kimber have the internal or external extractor? If it's external I'd pass on it and select a different model. |

Between the two, I would vote for the Sig. The reason is purely economic. The Sig costs less, is an outstanding pistol, and leaves you with cash for other goodies such as holster, belt, mag pouches, additional magazines, ammo, etc. I am a 1911 fan and that is the only style of pistol that I own. Even my Browning Buckmark was purchased because it is ergonomically identical to a 1911 and therefore I can train with it and have no cross over difficulties with my carry weapons. I am not a particularly intelligent individual so I keep my selection of pistols simple. In the event that I am ever again in a high stress situation, I will not need to expend any effort in remembering what weapon I am carrying. |
| I used to have a Kimber Ultra CDP. It was a nice pistol, and I never had any problems with it. Then I bought a SIG P220, and have never looked back. It just feels comfortable to me, and is ultra-reliable. I don't think you could go wrong with either one of them. |
