Quoted: I ate a bunch of Ground Round when snowed in at Bangor ME, 1996. Was pretty good when someone else was paying for it. Didn't know they were gone. Who remembers Burger Queen? Became Druther's, then nothing. View Quote We used to eat at the Bangor Ground Round all the time when we would go to the 'big city' for school or Christmas shopping. Loved it as a kid. |

Wow. Ground Round on Ogden Ave.
Used to love that place, thanks for the flashback OP. Took a few dates there back in the day. |

What about A&W's, are any of those still around? The food was mediocre but the root beer floats were epic.

Lord Burger, Mister S, Burger Chef, chicken galore, chicken delight and a few more the names elude me, one specializing in prime rib ( I still have a book of matches from there )
We still have Dog N Suds in Lorain, no relation as they just kept the name, and there a 2 Brown Derby eateries locally but don't have sterling reviews. The last time I ate at HJ's I ordered a French dip and there was only one thin slice of meat. I showed the waitress the picture on the menu and she said the rest of the meat is still frozen. |

Quoted: We have a Brown Derby in my town, but it's not related to the chain. They have excellent Mexican food and good local live music. Their wings are the best around. I remember Lums in New London, CT as a kid. I loved that place. Free refills on sodas, and they came in odd looking red plastic "glasses". https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/186407/Lums-1931793.jpg View Quote We had a Lums in the 70s Long gone The current occupant of the building is some kind of Asian restaurant. A full rack of baby backs, onion ring loaf and about 5 beers was the reward after a successful weekend of building and blowing stuff up at reserve drill. View Quote Damon's was a good place. There was another similar place called Jilly's, not sure if they were anywhere but the Atlanta area. Turned out the owners were laundering drug money and got caught. |

I ate at a Steak & Ale in Tulsa a bit more than a decade ago. Wasn't great, full of old people.

The ground round by me had pretty good burgers and salads, but for whatever reason, the kitchen took forever.
I think it closed 7 or 8 years ago. I was sad to see it go. Speed |

The first good steak I ever had in a restaurant was at a Brown Derby. It was a big deal because they were serving alcohol all over the place. By my standards today, the steak would have been terrible since I ordered it well done. My thinking was "of course I want it done well, if a thing is worth doing it's worth doing well." I got better and wiser as I became the driver for my Great Uncle's adventures at Scioto Downs. Prime rib, gambling, driving the Cadillac, good times for a 16 year old hillbilly kid.
The best steak I ever had was out of an aged beef my Great Uncle had hanging for a local farmer by the name of Bob Evans. They were pretty good friends. It seemed that Evans' didn't want the thing hanging in their plant under the watchful eye of an over zealous USDA man. It was incredible. You can get a pretty good steak in my area, but nothing tops that one yet. If it would have had a grade it would have been easily in the Prime category. He raised his own steers and finished it carefully. The closest I found was in Florence, Italy. |

Shoneys Big Boy . They served a spaghetti that I thought was awsome , it wasnt really a great spaghetti , but I think it was the cumin spice .
Some of the diners still serve that kind of spaghetti with Grecian bread . Plus they handed out little Batman comic books , nana nana na na Bat Turn . |
