Has anyone seen O Maidens in Your Savage Season?  If so, would you recommend it?

It has the Queen in it and this scene was pretty funny:

Eternity is a very odd and disquieting show, quite honestly I’m invested in it now, and regardless of how it goes I’m in for the duration.
As RCaerbannog240 has mentioned, I can see where some of the story arc is headed as the MC if you really want to call it that, progresses through its existence.

Apropos of nothing…

I’ve been “doing it wrong.”

Conventional wisdom has generally advised against trying to learn Japanese conversation by watching and listening to anime.

It doesn’t mean that there’s no value to trying to do so, but you do need to exercise a bit of caution.

Sure, I typically “get it” when a character’s speech patterns have intentionally been made to sound uneducated or rough or vulgar, or too familiar for use in polite conversations with co-workers or supervisors, or employ teen-delinquent-style slang (yabai!), or when the voice actor is using certain regional dialects to make it sound like they’re unsophisticated bumpkins, and so I know enough not to try and emulate such speech, just as I can typically detect the use of very formal, ultra-polite ‘keigo’ (even though I don’t know enough of it to actually speak it).

But it took me by surprise when I just came to realize that the word “umai”, which I’ve been using to indicate that a food item tastes good (just like they often do in anime scripts) may also be considered to be in the same class of words that I should probably avoid - umai means “good”, but that’s not really the same thing as “delicious” - while “oishii” more properly means “delicious” and is probably the better word to use in that context.

So, I’ve been “doing it wrong.”

That is all - I now return this channel to its regularly-scheduled food fight.

Yabai!

Naw, it’s the same with every language, most of it is based off of a life of speaking it.
From slang to regional dialect, it varies.
Heck, a good example is the word boot.
In American English it’s a type of footwear, in the British language it’s the trunk of a vehicle.

In Spanish, panocha in the correct usage is a type of brown sugar candy or type of bread made with it, in the slang it’s a female’s private parts.
Guess which gets used more?

Ok, I started watching anime back in the 90's.  Do they still make stuff like Tenchi or Love Hina?  I watched and loves all Tenchi except In Tokyo, could not get past Eps 1 or 2 of that.

It's honestly not terrible to supplement learning it with anime, but creative subs can bite you in the ass if you aren't careful and looking up literal translations  to what you've "learned". I know enough now to know they changed a ton of dialog in yakuza 0 to be more palatable to burger bros. lots of relatively straightforward and short sentences in that game are changed to over the top, swear filled sentences by the sub team.

Somehow I was finished with episode five before I remembered to add it to my queue and go back to finish Jormungand.

Six episodes in, Hinamatsuri is pretty good. The MC is kind of a shit, but he at least has a conscience. Lots of feels are similar to Higehiro (because of course, same basic genre I didn't know was a thing) but less intense subject matter.

Yeah, it certainly feels very similar to Higehiro... well, I mean if Anzu was "wholesomely" forced into prostitution, the homeless men "wholesomely" tried to rape her, and then Hitomi "wholesomely" killed herself.

Wait a minute.  So you're saying an anime where the female MC is an underage runaway forced into prostitution is NOT a "wholesome anime"?

I maintain that the relationship between the MCs is wholesome. I also insist that even though it covers some pretty intense subject matter, Higehiro is wholesome. I've made my case for this, and I will never back down from this position.

We know.  Someone arguing that an anime in which the female MC is an underage runaway forced to allow adult men to have sex with her just to survive, is sexually assaulted, etc. is a "wholesome anime" is funny.  However, them refusing to ever back down from that position despite the absurdity of it is what makes it really funny.

Unless you realize how ridiculous it is and you have just been trolling us this whole time.  In which case:

The other night I re-watched Ninja Scroll for like the hundredth time and I got to thinking, what's a good anime similar to it? Movie or series.

The movie was a masterpiece, but to me the series was a huge let down.

So what do you guys recommend? Preferably of similar artistic scenes with a good story.

Also Mushizo fight scene is best fight scene.

Right in her scaly arse with a pile driver.

Btw you need to have the strength of the demon lord to satisfy that masochist dragon. Just being able to punch her through concrete walls would not be enough to get her excited.
In the Arifuretta after stories Tio actually gets power-ups in battle when her master smacks her around.

(What do you mean, "that's the wrong series"? Frankly I couldn't get past the first two or three episodes of Miss Kobayashi season 1 without keeling over from boredom. Yes, 'Killing Slimes for 300 Years' is brainless and juvenile, but sometimes 'brainless and juvenile' is just what the world needs - for example, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear.)
