Twenty years ago I would have agreed. Today, not so much. Glock is building the same pistol they have since the 80's. Others have come in and advanced the state of the art. The VP9 is better pistol in every way and honestly I'm not an H&K fanboi. The Smith M&P series has proven to be a winner. The Sig 320, for all it's naysayers, is a force to be reckoned with in the market. Walther is making excellent pistols, I just wish I could keep track of all their models.
I have a 19 (and a 17 and a 20) and I've carried on several occasions. It's just not my first choice anymore. |

Quoted: Trust the 228 can take quite a beating This was the first pistol I purchased and the first that I carried (for over 8 years). Fantastic all around pistol. And if I ever ran out of ammo I could certainly bludgeon someone with it and not worry. Fun to see the two sides of the coin.. I carry a G45 daily now mostly because I don't give a fuck about it. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/597482/IMG_0913_JPG-3314033.JPG https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/597482/IMG_0915_JPG-3314034.JPG View Quote You showed me yours, I'll show you mine. |

I have at least 10 Glocks, mostly Gen 5 now. My gen 3 G17 is so well worn in and I can shoot it better than anything else I own. I've had it for at least 17 years.

I kept trying to find the perfect pistol. something simple, clean, mid size, and reliable. tried them all...
tried the 19 gen 3 then the 19 gen 4 then the 19X I didn't know where to turn, i was lost... what else was out there? was i missing something? but then, I found her. sitting alone in my PSA cart one night. a beautiful NIB 19 gen5... took her home and we messed around a bit, a few days later we both agreed it'd be best to separate for a bit and get her milled for the trijicon... if you love something, let her go. if she loves you back, she'll return in 3-4 weeks later (5-6 weeks for nitrate finish) and coated in oil. |

Cost.
Compatibility. Reliability. Availability. Durability. As a reluctant convert to the platform I'll say this...long after the almost every other pistol mentioned here is a discontinued item (except the 1911 for nastalga) Glock 19s will still be coming out of the injection moulding machines. It is simply the tool that defines the category. Hate all you want...we know it to be true. If you want to help little Johnny fight the zombies in 30 years you don't stack 1911s, USPs, M&Ps....you stack Glocks. |

The Glock 19 is a compromise pistol for lowest common denominator users.
Best trigger - no Best ergonomics - no Best accuracy - no Best adaptability/modularity - no Best reliability - maybe, top tier for certain Best common use pistol for untrained/minimally trained folks - most likely, yes. The smith model 10 held that position for a long while, too. Did not mean it was the best all around handgun, either. |

Change the grip angle and add .25" to the grip length and I'd probably agree with the OP.

View Quote I owned a Sig229 like you and then a Berretta 92, owning both thru ignorance. Looking back, da/sa triggers are tarded, and I felt stupid for not knowing how clueless I was until I bought my first striker- fired Glock with consistent pull trigger. Have you tried a striker fired? |

Reliable, affordable, easy to operate, excellent aftermarket support, and pretty much a no-nonsense mainstay everywhere for everyone. View Quote Yep. As much as I love my Caniks and 1911 for their triggers and other advantages, there is no question that G19 rules the roost. |

Several things to be said for a Glock.
No safety, more than a few cops have been shot while trying to shoot a pistol with the safety on. Glocks shoot when you pull the trigger. I would have said go bang but that could be confused with blowing up. They keep shooting until all the boolits are fired. |

I love my G19 and it was probably the best handgun 10 years ago.
However, guns like the M&P 2.0 Compact and the Sig P365 Macro are just a couple better options that are more refined, have better stock sites/triggers, etc. |

Glock is adequate for what it is. I have one. Perfect is an individual choice. For me that’s CZ, I have 4.

If they would get rid of the polymer mags and slim it down, it would be be perfect.

Thought VP9 would take my g19s place, but the controls are ill placed and sharp under recoil
G19 still wins. Groves or no groves, fits my hand perfectly and works with my style of grip. |

The Glock 19 is the Honda Accord of the pistol world. Reliable, ubiquitous, and not particularly exciting.
It is the perfect blend of size and capacity. It is decently concealable, but can also function as a full-size duty pistol. Parts availability, aftermarket support, mag availability, and holster choices are another huge selling point. There are other pistols that have better ergos, capacity, triggers, sights / mounting options, but they are only marginal improvements over a stock G19. None of the other options out there (and there are plenty of good ones) have the same blend of features, function, and parts/mag availability. |

Quoted: Glock 17 is better. View Quote This. I'm a huge Glock fan, but the 19 is my least favorite Glock that I've ever shot. I don't know why people love it so much. The grip doesn't fit my hands well (I know, personal preference). It would be worth giving up some of the comfort if it was significantly easier to conceal, but it's not imo. It's still big enough that it's difficult to conceal for me. |

Reliability. It built its reputation on extreme reliability. That damn pistol has been subjected to every fucked up torture test you can imagine. Single pistols were devouring hundreds of thousands of rounds without breakage or malfunction decades ago . Cops and militaries across the globe have sang its praises to the high heavens and it has become the pistol that all the rest strive to be. The plain jane plastic rock block Glock beat them all . Dont get me wrong, I love all things gun . The steel , machined aluminum , sleek body lines and exotic woods , phenolics , and what ever else as much as the next guy . When Space Commander Alpha asks me to choose a sidearm and associated accessories to accompany me and my team on our recon deployment to an uncharted and relatively unknown alien planet without any follow on support the choice would be an easy one for me .

Quoted: You spelled HK VP9 wrong, Sir. My 1st Glock was a G19. The VP9 is better. Anyone who can't see that is no better than a Fudd clinging to his .30-30. View Quote |

It’s the perfect pistol for people who either only want, or can only afford one gun. It’s a jack of all trades and a master of none.

Quoted: 5 generations and the triggers still suck. Clicks about 4 times before it goes bang Yes I have shot a few with decent factory triggers. But I shouldn't have to drop another $100 for an aftermarket trigger on a new gun. I respect them for what they are, but I don't like them for my needs/uses. To each their own, but to call them "the best ever made " is bullshit. View Quote |

If you shoot suppressed, the Glock 19 will likely have been tested as a host.

Is the Glock 45 model considered the same, just for bigger hands?

"Best" 9mm goes to CZ.
Glocks point like a 2x4 but they run good. |
