Because he's a fucking dumbass.
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/02/025686.php?format=print Why Obama Hates Insurance Companies February 25, 2010 Posted by John at 7:24 PM It's puzzling: why don't more people notice that President Obama is a rather weird guy? When he describes his own experiences, they tend to be other-worldly. During the health summit today, Obama related one of his formative experiences with an insurance company; in this case, it was auto insurance: OBAMA: ... You know, when I was –– when I was young, just got out of college, I had to buy auto insurance. I had a beat-up old car. And I won't name the name of the insurance company, but there was a company, let's call it Acme Insurance in –– in Illinois. And I was paying my premiums every month. After about six months I got rear-ended, and I called up Acme and said, "You know, I'd like to see if I can get my car repaired." And they laughed at me over the phone. Because really, this was set up not to actually provide insurance, what it was set up was to meet the legal requirements. But it really wasn't serious insurance. Now, it's one thing if you got an old beat-up car that you can't get fixed. It's another thing if your kid is sick or you've got breast cancer. Obama's story passed without comment, but it made zero sense. What on earth was he talking about? He had car insurance; his vehicle was rear-ended; he called the insurance company to arrange for repairs; and they laughed at him because it "really wasn't serious insurance" even though it was "set up to meet the legal requirements." Huh? Automobile insurance (like health insurance) is a heavily regulated industry. In some states, all auto insurance policies are required to include collision coverage. If the cost of the repairs exceeds the value of the "beat-up old car," you get the value of the car. In other states, liability insurance is required but collision coverage is optional. If you prefer to take your chances, you can choose to forgo collision coverage. Obama is a reasonably bright guy; is he telling us that he bought an insurance policy that didn't provide for repairs if he had an accident, but didn't know it? Further, insurance companies can't just laugh at you over the telephone and say, "Tough luck, sucker. We don't pay our policyholders' claims." Doing so would expose the company to additional damages on top of its liability for repairs and, if repeated, could result in the company's being banned from writing coverage in the state in question. I can think of three possible explanations for what happened to Obama, assuming his story wasn't a complete fabrication. First, he made a rational decision not to buy collision coverage on his vehicle. But in that case, he can hardly complain if his insurance company told him they didn't cover the damage to his car when he was rear-ended. Second, he could have bought auto insurance from a company that went bankrupt. But in that case, he wouldn't be out of luck, his claim would be picked up by a state fund. Third, he could have bought a high-deductible policy and the damage from being rear-ended was within his deductible. In general, buying high-deductible insurance is a good idea. If either 1) or 3) is correct, is Obama telling us that he is such a dope that the government should re-write his contracts so he can get a benefit he didn't pay for? Maybe so; he is a Democrat, after all. The more we see of Barack Obama, the stranger he appears to be. Either that, or he is cynically making stuff up to play to an audience that is ignorant with respect to insurance, and much else. |

Extreme narcissism with delusions of grandeur, brought about by doting grandparents who raised him during his formative years. And privileges without justification by superiors all along, out of the belief they were "righting a wrong". Call it white guilt which laid out a red carpet ride, handling him with kid gloves. Now he rules the nation based on his skewed experiences. This event is due to his lack of any structured upbringing by a true parent. Sad that he has a law degree yet couldn't see the insurance policy as being a contract. Nor did he have the motivation to use the system he studied, that being torts. The BASIS of our civil legal system. |

I "had" a full coverage policy on a vehicle that was stolen, damaged, and found. Turns out my agent never paid the premium but pocketed the money and made a fake proof of insurance card for me. Guess what - I still got paid (the agent's parent companies insurance paid out of an error's and omission's policy they had and my agent lost his license for the fraud.
Dumbass probably had liability only coverage - or was lying - or both. |

A fictitious story by obama to elicit hatred for greedy insurance companies and to show that people need the gov to help them. with obama's bullshit plan , the insurance companies will make out like bandits .... AND the government siezes control . It's a win win for both of them . all smoke and mirrors propped up by the media , and either way we get fucked .

![]() If he really did get rear ended, it was the other person fault and THEIR ins company should have fixed his car. If they didn't have insurance, which according to the story, was mandatory, well then he should have had non/under-insured coverage. If his car didn't get fixed or the other driver didn't have insurance he could have sued...he, presumably, is a lawyer. He may not have been then, but he IS now, he would have known that before telling that stupid story full of fail. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and yet Palin is the stupid one |

An insurance company's one & only job is to make money for it's shareholders. Guess where that leaves the rest of us. It leaves you free to contract with any one of the many insurance companies as you see fit. Or you could invest in insurance companies if you think it is such a great business. Although the return hasn't been very good as of late. -Z |

all insurance should be voluntary Yeah, a guy like you almost killed my family on Christmas Day by driving irresponsibly and didn't understand why he was going to jail for causing a crash/ijuries. Thanks a lot. And I would assume you are taking him to civil court as well ? driving in an irresponsible manner isn't the same as having an adversion to being forced into a contract with a company you don't want. If the risk of leaving your house is just to much for you then stay home .... I shouldn't have to pay for your social insecurities . your righteous indignation is fucking sickening . |
