| This stems from watching Generation Kill. the Marines say they are bad luck. I googled and it says the same thing. they are bad luck, but never goes into why. What happened that made them unlucky? |
Budda got no balls. We ate charms all the time and we never got rain when we wanted it. |
But the guys I know that've been in the sandbox would peg the kids that got too close to the HMMWVs in the head with Charms. ![]() Kharn |
Its not just rain, its bad luck. The catch is that bad things ALLWAYS happen when youre a Marine Corps grunt. But its conveinient to blame it on the charms. |
I have no Idea where it came from, but I'd be willing to wager that it came from before 'teh internetz' |
I didn't say it did. I said the internet makes silly shit become legend. BTW, where, exactly, are we discussing this topic?
|
1st: I'm not sure Im following you. You are saying that your first post didnt have any bearing on the OP? 2nd: What did you mean by where? |
OK: Silly shit ("Charms are bad luck") is developed, however. Silly shit makes it's way onto the internet. Silly shit gets repeated, over and over. Silly shit becomes legend. 1. OP mentioned googling, the source of all things internet. 2. Where are we discussing this? The INTERNET. |
Thanks for clearing up the second one. I still stand by my assertion that charms were "bad luck" well before the internet. |
Yeah, googling it indicates it goes back at least to Gulf War I. And, those aren't "Blow Pops", they look like Jolly Ranchers or something. I got out in 1989, I never saw any of them when I was in. |

I know that Charms have been around for a very long time in US military packages. My dad had some sort of Army Air Corps survival pack that he brought home from WWII. In it were signal mirror, box kite for radio antenna, machete, other rations, first aid stuff, and CHARMS. I remember eating some of them in about 1960-62. There were terrible and very stale, but free candy for a kid.......... |
Same company makes both blow pops and these.. |
