| ...not connect to my wireless modem after hibernating? You can turn it off/on or simply restart it, and it connects without any problem. However, if it goes into hibernation mode, it will not connect. You can "right click" the icon in the task bar, and it still doesn't recognize the modem (or locate any wireless signal). Now, every once in a whil it will automatically reconnect, but for the most part you have to completely restart the computer. The computer is an eMachines desktop using a Linksys Wireless-N network adapter through one of the USB ports. Any ideas? |

my laptop does almost the same thing but instead of refusing to connect, it is very slow on the first hit against the web.
I use hibernate all the time; saves startup time and saves the situation when I shut down. That said, I am using the built-in wi-fi on a compaq cheapo laptop about 6 years old. Since yours is USB based, it could be the issues mentioned above, or it could be the USB port itself going to sleep. Try connecting a USB flash drive, accessing it, then hibernate. If it shows up again after restart, then I'd say it isn't a USB problem. If the flash drive is not connected after the above, then I'd suspect a USB sleep issue. Also, please clarify-are you referring to 'sleep' mode or 'hibernate' mode? They are very different. I know you say 'hibernate' but just want to be sure. One other thing-when the problem shows, what happens if you simply unplug the USB device and replug it? If nothing else, this could be a usable workaround. |

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a try... Fiddle with your power savings settings or the configuration program for the linksys
also check power options for usb ports
Wait a minute, I am not sure how to do either of these suggestion... ![]() For USB ports go to: - Control Panel - System - Device Manager -> expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers - right click on Generic USB Hub - click on Power Management and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" You may have to do it to the USB root hubs also. I'm on Windows 7 so if your on XP or Vista it might be different. |
