Was ARF skeptical about clicking.

Nice, post of the day.  That is really cool.

Pretty nifty, but I didn't need a wind map to let me know it's windy as hell outside right now.  I've lost power twice in the past hour.

I picked a good day to stay in and assemble a couple lowers.

According to that map Chicago sucks

Looking at that map, apparently, Ontario sucks.

What altitude is the map reporting? Why no Alaska?

Neat, but not helpful!

Try being at the point of where the southeastern AND western winds meet. Only 40mph on the high end so far, but it's getting stronger.

I'm not worried about the trees getting windthrown, as much as I am the darn things hurling branches like a lawn sprinkler.

ETA
Just realized that it's Friday.

I gotta run into town, and will make a run down to the beach..Supposed to be 20' waves today, and that always causes Illinois Fudgies to wander out on the piers, so they can drown...or whatever FIB's get out of it. Always good for pics though.

This one is a bit cooler, though I do like the simplicity of the OP one, I have both bookmarked.

Global Wind Map

You are also able to see the wind from the surface to the jetstream in 100mb increments.   That link shows the jetstream, but you can change the 500hPa to 1000hPa for surface.

It's AWESOME for watching hurricanes.

Windy enough last night to blow my burn barrel over and roll it into a drainage ditch (where it stayed).

My brother had a big tree branch break off and fall on his roof.

My trash can is entirely MIA.

On the bright side, it's HOT outside.  Friggin 48 degrees!   After weeks and weeks of below 20 and below 0 (before windchill), we are having a bit of flooding going on.

Well, I can't change millibars on my mobile device, and my power is out and I don't feel like hooking up the generator.  I guess I'm out of luck with viewing surface winds with that one

As I figured. It's Friday, And the winter FIB's couldn't help themselves. Like Lemmings...

The Wind shear from the two systems, was just starting to break, and the waves were rounded off, but building on the swell.
Maybe 12', but the offshore swells were starting to come in, and break up the shore pack, and wash over the Piers.

Perfect day for the kiddies to enjoy getting crushed, or a stroll on an Ice covered Pier...in 40mph winds, with waves trying to knock you off.

Doofus made his way along, dodging the odd wave, and clinging to the catwalk uprights. I watched and waited for half an hour, and got bored waiting from him to
feed the fish or give up. Plenty of folks with cell phones and Photogs to make the call for a recovery team, so I left, before the wind got going...was just 40Mph when I left.

A good Gale is always entertaining.

Either there's a mini black hole in Canada, or the Canadians are trying to suck up all our air again. Or maybe they caused the mini blackhole. Hmmmmm....

I change my front brakes last night. When I got on the road this morning I was worried that I screwed something up since my car was pulling to the side badly. Turns out it was just Mother Nature testing my ability to keep her between the ditches.

Over land, they are just called "Low Pressure Systems", even though we get straight line winds that are at Hurricane speed, we don't have waves coming at us in addition.  We just lose power, and nobody cares due to being in "flyover country".

I hear ya!

Dadgum power bill, should be by hours in service, not monthly connection.
