I'm having a problem accessing a certain website on my PC with Windows 7 64 Bit. It works fine on other PCs running XP and I tried the "Compatability View" tab, but I can't access the website or any links to it.
The website is www.xbox-experts.com It's a site with a vast amount of info for repairing Xboxes, and I need to get access for a repair I'm working on!!! If I manually type in the URL, I get this error:
If I go to Google and try to click the link from there, I get the same error. What gives? |

Try another browser, I'd start with that. I'd rather not. I've been running IE since it's inception and have NEVER had a problem (until this, but I doubt it's a browser problem...). Well, I tried. If you don't want to troubleshoot then good luck. |

Disable any add-ons, clear your cache, and set security to minimum. See if that changes anything. I'll see what it does on a machine here with IE8. |

I already tried security reduction, but I have now cleared the cache and tried again to no avail. |
| it appears to be a code problem with the website. I would find a way to contact the webmaster and lodge a complaint. Also I have had similar issues with ie on windows 7 and do use another browser for some things. I prefer chrome but firefox is another good option but I mostly use IE. |

After googling a bit I see you're not the only one with that problem. It seems like IE gets confused on file types in some cases. I saw this listed as a fix:
3. Setting IE as the "Default program" has supposedly worked for some. Click the Windows Start Button, type "Default program" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. Click Set default program. Click Internet Explorer Click Set this program as Default and click OK. Click Set program access and computer defaults Expand Custom Besides IE, check Enable access to this program. Click OK. |

So far, I'm leaning towards a coding problem, as well. If you look at that error report, it has changed the "dots" to "dashes" and also has added an "m." to the beginning of the URL....
It's gonna take some time for it to run a sweep and I have to get back to work, but keep posting suggestions or ideas and I'll report back when I get home later. |

For all you guys telling him to drop IE in favor of Firefox.... You do realize that Firefox had way more security vulnerabilities found last year than IE right? Found and fixed, sure. Every machine I've ever seen with a ton of spyware and viruses was being used with IE as the browser. Now correlation isn't everything, but I don't think it's a coincidence. |

OK, I'm home and the sweep finished. Nothing found. At all.
For the curious, it's Webroot Spysweeper W/ Antivirus. Seeing as it's ONE website, I've got to believe it's something in their coding that's not IE8 or Windows 7 compliant. i dunno..... If I ever figure anything out I'll update this thread. |
