Outlook Express is/was an email client.  MS dropped OE in Vista.   You have to use a third party email client now or use Web Mail.   Web mail simply accesses your email on the providers server rather than allowing you to download email and attachments onto your own hard drive.    Outlook is the new name for Hot Mail.  Not to be confused with Outlook Express, the email client, or Outlook Mail using an Exchange server.

Unsure about your password troubles though.

Oh and BTW Windows 8 was designed to be used with phones and tablets and touchscreens but will work just as well with a standard computer and screen.

If you want a mail client like Outlook was, go get Thunderbird:

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/

If you're familiar with Firefox, thats their web browser. Thunderbird is their mail app.

Ha, I agree about Windows 8 being a horrible product. But not understanding something vs something is broken are two very different things. There is very little difference between using outlook express in windows 2000 all the way to 8.

Had the same problem with Windows 7. I like my Windows Live Mail, which is what it's called.
I kept the instructions from whoever I called to set it up. Try it and see if it works for you.

Edgardo: Windows Live Mail

1. Click on the Live Mail menu next to the Home tab.

2. Click on Options and select Email Accounts from the menu.

3. On the Email Accounts Page you will see the list of email accounts created (if any) proceed to step 8. If there are no Accounts yet click on the Add button.

4. Choose Email account then click Next.

5. Fill out the fields with the needed information (Email address, etc.) Then put a check on the option Manually configure server settings and click Next.

6. On the server settings page select POP for server type. For your server addresses: OPTION 1: Outgoing Port number: 587 This server requires a secure connection (SSL): NOT TICKED Incoming Port number: 110 This server requires a secure connection (SSL): NOT TICKED Leave a copy of messages on server is TICKED. OPTION 2: Outgoing Port number: 465 This server requires a secure connection (SSL): TICKED Incoming Port number: 995 This server requires a secure connection (SSL) :TICKED Leave a copy of messages on server is TICKED. Once done click on Next.

7. You will get a confirmation page that the Email account has been added. Click on Finish.

8. On the Accounts page your new Email account should appear. If you would like to make changes on the settings, Select the Email Account then click on Properties.

9. On the General tab make sure the correct email address is correct on the specified field.

10. Click on the servers tab to view and edit the server settings. Follow the settings indicated on step 6.

11. Don’t forget to check the option “My server requires authentication”. Click on the settings tab and select the option “Use same settings as my incoming server.”

12. Click on the Advanced tab to view the port settings. Use the same ones on step 6. Once done click on Apply then OK.

You know I had forgotten all about Windows Live Mail.  Never used it though.    However it was included in Vista and was basically a renamed and less functional than the Outlook Express it replaced.   It was not available with the Win7 OS however it could/can be downloaded as a separate app or with the Windows Essentials Pack as part of an update option via Windows Update.

So I have to assume it is not included as part of the Windows 8 OS.  Unsure if it's available via Windows Update.   But I think you can still download it and install manually.
