How do they get 50,000 fans to go to a game where the best seat in the stadium is worse than the worst seat in an indoor arena? There is no way the bastards on the front row (100 ft away from the rink) can even see an inch of the ice because of the angle. What the hell? This has to be the worst hockey game to go and see live. As I'm watching this another question popped up, why do they have both national anthems when both teams are from the US and playing in the US? |

NHL mandate...celebrate both countries players. Which is a joke as there are probably 10 or so countries represented. Four. There's a Russian guy and a Swedish guy. The NHL teams are played in Canada and the US. When there's a Russian NHL team expect to hear the Russian anthem. (I ranted about the same thing, but the wife pointed that one out to me. And I'm the big hockey fan in the house!  )

I've enjoyed every other Winter Classic but this one isn't growing on me. I know they're a new concept but they should be on January 1, not the second, when there are four other games that will be played tonight. 
Way to schedule-fark that one up, NHL. Being on the 2nd this year was probably because the 1st was on a Sunday and they didn't want to compete with the NFL. The News Year Day College Bowl Games were all pushed to today too because of the conflict with the NFL schedule. |

They went head to head with the NFL and bowl games in past years and did well. My guess is NBC dictated the whole thing.
