So I bought a new dell laptop, and have been trying to hook it up wirelessly all night. I can not get it to hook up with my linksys router (WRT54G).
I am currently on my old laptop with a linksys card that I have used for a year. The dell laptop came with an internal card (Dell Wireless 1490 Dual Band WLAN (802.11a/g,54Mbps) Mini Card for Latitude). It doesnt connect up with my wireless network even after I manually set up my wireless network because my SSID is not broadcasted. So I then tried my good ol linksys card, and it did not work either. So I know my problem isnt the dell card, but any ideas? Its using a wep key as encryption also. Any other questions just ask, Ill take all of the help I can get with this one.

enable the broadcast to make sure the new card is working.

I asked a question on here about the WRT54G and not being able to connect to my wireless laptop about two weeks ago. I called the Linksys helpline and spoke to a very helpful woman. Their number is on the packet the installation CD came in. I had to download some stuff, and then clear out my network connections and then reconnect and everything turned out fine.

when trying to connect something new to the wireless router, disable ALL security features.  See if the card will connect.  Once connected, start enabling the security features.  WEP should work on most any card.

Thanks, Yeah I just had to update the firmware of the router, then enable broadcast of SSID, and then it connected, and then I turned off the broadcast of the SSID, and it works great. Once again great job guys, thanks!
