I recently bought two Netgear wireless print servers as seenHere. I installed one at my parents home, and it works fine except the computer that is connected via ethernet to the print server appears to have to be on to print. I currently have two laptop computers with wireless network cards in them and one printer in my home. I then have a wireless routerthat is connected to my cable modem, as seen Here Is there a way to connect my printer to the printer server, and my cable modem to the printer server such that I can print wirelessly at any time. Or does the print server require a PC to be connected to it in order for other PCs to print wirelessly? |
Yes plug the print server in to the router. To work with multiple devices without having a computer on If WIRED it should be pluged in to a router to get its IP address and the computer is also plugged in to the router... Connect one of the ethernet ports on the print server to one of the ethernet ports on the router. That router and print server autosenses the connection so any one of the ethernet LAN connections should work. If used WIRELESS it should stand alone with no ethernet connection and still have a wireless connection to a router to get a IP address or have a valid static internal IP address manually assigned by you. The whole point of a stand alone print server is to be able to print without going through a computer that has to be on. |
