I have a Belkin N750 wireless router that I use with fiber optic internet, and has been trouble free since the system was installed...until yesterday.  Lost internet connection, and initially assumed it was with the internet provider.  Called the company, and there were no issues noted in my area.  So, started troubleshooting the router.  The light on the front, which is supposed to be "blue" when everything is working, has been solid amber.  I reset the router, unplugged it a couple of times, but no change with the amber indicator light.  I found a thread online that mentioned cloning the MAC address, but still nothing.  Fortunately, we have a backup Netgear N7000, which is what I am using now.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot the router?  I'd like to have a backup, and wouldn't mind getting it working again.

Can you log in to the router as in go to the router admin portal?

Yes, that's where I was able to clone the MAC address.

Just wondering why you were cloning the MAC address?

Likely that fooled the ISP into NOT changing OP's IP addy.

It was one of the suggestions I found on fixing the issue...

Often 192.168.1 [0] .1 will take you there -with a lot of brands.

192.168.100.1  IIRC will take you into the modem.

Log in and check router status to see if it's getting an IP

Renew/refresh if it's not getting one assigned.

I guess I'll slow down and think a bit more, if the old router works... but the new one doesn't...

I'd try to plug the Belkin in to the Netgear and see if the Netgear will issue an IP to the Belkin.

Hurry, my short attention span can't wait much longer

Try giving the router a hard reset.  Usually involves a paperclip inserted into a small hole.

Set the offending router to accept an IP address from your good router. See what happens.

Beat.

Still, try it.

I plugged the Belkin into the Netgear, and it is still giving me the amber light of death....not sure how to proceed.

I'm also catching hell trying to get devices to connect to the Netgear router, its being a PITA.
