Hey all- just purchaced an Airlink wireless router for my home computer to set up a wireless network. The wifes computer has a built in wireless card, so it'd be nice. I've got the cable modem connected to the wireless router, and then to the computer. My desktop internet works fine. Problem is that the labtop does not "see" the wireless signal. Any help would be appreciated. Extra credit for those who explain is *very* basic terms. :) Thanks all! Erik Johnson |

OK, What system are you running on? What computer do you have? My first suggestion would be to make sure the wireless connection on her computer in enabled - this allows the computer to "see" the wireless router. Second, make sure that the wireless connection is the primary connection. It may not be seeing the router becuase it is looking for the wired connection. If that doesn't work try releasing and renewing the ip address. By doing this, you are setting the computer up with an ip address that is compatable with the router. If that doesn't work, IM or email me and we'll try to get it figured out. Don |
Don- Both computers are running windows XP. Her computer has the wirless internet enabled, so as far as I know, it should be ready to accept the connection. Can you tell me where I need to set hers to use the wireless as the defult conenection? When you speak of updating the IP address, do I need to do that to her computer too? I have done that on the desktop (mine). Thanks! Erik Johnson |

Its amazing how the internet works. Read this. Enable WPA-PSK and mac filtering, and turn off RF-ID broadcast www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_03july28.mspx |
