Wolf or wolves? Hyena or hyenas? The largest wolves and largest hyenas are of similar size, so tie for size. Speed and mobility to wolves. If one-on-one, it would be a toss-up, IMO. If pack-on-pack, it would depend on inter-pack cooperation and cohesion. I don't know enough to make the call in that case.

Wolves. They were just released and are being protected by .Gov so they'll be fine. They also can breed with no known extreme issues. Hyenas however cannot. Hyena pregnancy is very dangerous.
"The clitoris' birth canal is only an inch in diameter, and the tissue often tears as a 2-pound cub squeezes through the narrow opening. The rip can be fatal, as evidenced by the high death rate for first-time mothers." http://www.livescience.com/699-painful-realities-hyena-sex.html Wolves win, because they just outbreed the hyenas. |

| wolf for so many reasons including intelligence and the ability to work in a true pack attack with strategy and total cooperation. hyenas on the other hand may hunt in packs but not with the same intelligent and cooperative plan. One on one fight... could go either way but I'd say edge goes to wolf there too. |

Hyena clan- up to 80 individuals Wolf pack- 5-10 individuals you are not up on your wolf knowledge. Pack size varies greatly based on many factors such as food supply. A well documented pack in Oregon has regularly had over 20 individuals and if we want to talk max case scenario... there was a super pack in Russia a few years ago with over 100 members weighing up to 190lbs for the dominant males! Wolves are probably the coolest animals on the planet... hyenas on the other hand are the FSA of the animal kingdom. |
