I was wondering if I can plug in my D-Link wireless network router's USB wireless antenna (try saying that 10 time s fast) into my XBOX360 and get onto Xbox live. Or, do I have to spend the $90 on the actual XBOX360 antenna ?I haven't tried it because I don't want to accidentally screw things up (I'm network-stupid). Also, when I do plug in an antenna, do I need to then grant the 360 permission on my network using the MAC address just as I would if I was allowing another computer access? Finally, what is the benefit of XBOX Live if I don't intend to pay a monthly fee? Are there free downloads (games/trailers, etc.)? Any and all info is appreciated. |

the free live account lets you download demos and such. in order to play online, you have to have the Gold account. As far as your wireless thing goes, I am not sure. It does have network settings in it, but I honestly don't know how MS may have locked it down. I have a feeling just plugging in a wireless adapter to the port is going to work, but I'll defer to others here that may have tried it. |

I have a wireless ethernet bridge plugged into the ethernet port on my 360 and it works fine. Even if you only have a Xbox Live Silver account (free), hooking it all up is worth it as there's plenty of demos to download, plus you can access the Arcade games (sure, they cost money, but there are a ton of fun ones). I know lots of people complain about the $50/year for a Gold account, but honestly it's worth it. Currently XBL is the best console online service, and IMHO it surpasses the services built into many PC games (heck, it even beats Steam). |
