I picked this up a few days ago and it's pretty good but I got to a mission that is annoying as fuck. You are supposed to escort some dweeb to an extraction point while fighting off enemies. There is a berzerker queen that runs around knocking everyone unconscious. Then you can't get to the exfil point fast enough and everyone dies.
Is there some special strategy I should know about? Just blowing it up until it runs away is taking too long. |

I loved that game. I played through it with my infant daughter sleeping on my shoulder after my ex wife went back to work.
I don't recall what got me through certain stages, though. I recall having to quit and make additional attempts a lot here and there. If you don't have tanks, get tanks. They are great for scouting, and not susceptible to mind control or other such nonsense. Use them in pairs or in conjunction with infantry. |

It was fun but I don't know that I'll get back to it before Battlefield 1 launches.

I was trying to fight end game level bosses with noob troopers. Didn't work out too well. It all got better after disabling the DLC. I was wondering why it was so hard, now it's almost too easy. The DLC was apparently putting one extra wave of aliens in every mission. Oops.

And the armor you get from the bosses is worth it. The Icarus armor makes the Archon panic and run. |

This is my one huge issue with the Xcom series. the difficulty is either getting your shit pushed in or boringly easy. Yeah, and they really doubled down on it in XCom 2. 
I played the shit out of XCom 1 - many, many playthroughs, but I had to force myself to finish 2...I never even played the latest DLC. |
