[ARCHIVED THREAD] - XD = junk, Springfield CS = win (Page 1 of 5)

I sold mine, sights fell off and it had a tendency to not go "bang" I have a very hard time believing this. In order to replace the sights on an XD, the slide typically has to be placed in a vice, and the sights driven off with either a strong sight tool or a mallet and punch. |

-XD40 -around 5 years old -1400 rounds through -only factory ammo -round in chamber when gun broke = Federal Hydrashok It probably died of a broken heart. You professed your love to it, bought it, then put it in the safe. 5yrs/1400 rounds ain't no kinda lovin'. Seriously, hope you can get parts soon. |
| One thing has occurred to me about XDs. People talk them up all the time as the greatest gun ever, constantly reviewed positively online and such. But I have never seen someone shooting one, ever. I go to the local outdoor range once a month at least and there's always 10+ people there shooting pistols, not a single one has ever been shooting an XD. They seem to be the greatest gun that no one owns. |

I've got about 4k through an XD9SC and another 2k through an XD9 service. Three or four bad primers, otherwise no problems at all. I don't clean as often as I should, either. Mine are good to go. Quoted:
Does it have to be sent back for factory parts since Springfield doesn't sell replacement parts retail for the XD? You can order almost all of the parts online, including the striker. I believe the extractor is still the notable exception: http://www.pistolgear.com/ http://xdguys.com/shoppingcart/ |

Yup, I've had a couple gun shops tell me they don't install after market sights on XDs exactly because they are a PITA to remove. |

Holy crap! I am pretty sure every model of gun out there has failed at some time or another. What are you going to carry next? A rock or club? I am sure someone has broken one of those before as well. ![]() I only trust my HK now. Truthfully, I really shouldn't be surprised that a gun that started life as a $250 Saturday Night Special actually broke. |
|
Well, to be honest, the damn thing sucked BEFORE the pin broke. Sorry he hurt your feelings- I know you rely on your XD to feel "cooler" than the Glock crowd. Clown. Quoted: Yep, one data point and that means the whole lot of them must suck. You would, however, be a brilliant statistician. |

Guns seem to be kind of regional as far as tastes go for some reason. |

It may clear some room for the stick to stop bothering you as much. It's just not logical to assume that 1 single data point can be representative of a whole group of guns. Go take a stat class. You'll be fine. I promise. |

Then I bought a USP. I actually think my XD committed suicide because it felt inferior to a pistol as good as my HK. |

They seem to be the greatest gun that no one owns. At the last USPSA match I shot there were 3 XD shooters including me and my XD45. All ran without issue and these pistols are run hard considering one or two matches per month plus practice. I've got a couple thousand rounds through mine and it's holding up just fine. Perhaps the firing pin is a part that needs to be changed at some regular interval for best reliability. I broke a firing pin in an FAL one time but I still own and shoot the FAL. |

I sold mine, sights fell off and it had a tendency to not go "bang" +another Again... I have a hard time believing this as well. My local gunsmith charges extra to replace XD sights because they're a bitch to remove. And of the XD's I own and my buddies own, i've never seen it fail to go bang and NOT be due to a bad primer. |

I've gotten light primer strikes a number of times with my XD. Stuck the round back in the magazine, chambered it, and it fired the second time around. Almost all occurrances of this were with Blazer Brass FWIW, notoriously hard primers. But it doesn't instill much confidence all told. |
