[ARCHIVED THREAD] - XD hate, why? (Page 1 of 6)

I keep seeing people bash the XD because of the grip safety...but for the life of me, I can't imagine being able to shoot it with a problem.  I guess if you held it with two fingers and pulled the trigger with the other hand it might cause an issue...but you wouldn't hit shit anyway.  I'm sure some of it comes from the Glock fanboys.

I shot a rental, it went bang every time...for the first 20 rounds until a spring or pin broke inside and the trigger just dangled. They sent it back to the gunsmith with its two counterparts.

All the rental Glocks were still available.

Grip safety, trigger sucks, higher than necessary bore axis, and for the cherry-the build quality is what i would expect from croatian trash. But hey, what do I know? I've only shot them numerous times on multiple occasions. If someone gave me one, I would sell it immediately.

All of mine have functioned flawlessly...I own Glocks too, but the grip angle keeps me from shooting them often.  To me, the XD is far superior to a Glock, just because of that.

Why do so many people get hung up on the grip angle? Do you have tiny hands?  My Glock "points"  just as well as any other pistol I've shot.

Plus, I'm assuming you know I'm correct about the shitty trigger and unnecessary grip safety and the build quality.

I had one.  I hated the trigger, and I am a Glock owner.  Bore axis? I shoot SIGs too, and don't complain about it.  Grip safety? I am a 1911 owner so no big deal.  But that trigger is horrible.  Absolutely horrible.

They hate anything not Glock. Does not matter if its better or not, just that its not a Glock.

Seems like if its not a Glock 9mm, you are a fag according to GD.

I have enjoyed shooting all versions of the XD. I carry one every day.

Shit. Now i wish i sould remember tech terms......

Let's see if I can come close to explaining what I was told:
Exposed firing pin makes the pistol at higher risk for failure.
Not the only pistol with this design.

Anyways I suppose some situations might put you at risk for dropping the pistol just so....

That being said I dont find the hand grip safety or any other issue to detract from the overall appeal and value of my XD 9mm SC.

It is accurate and fun to shoot.

YMMV

People around here bash all makes of pistols.  For many I think it just makes them feel better about themselves, or their own purchases.

For what it's worth, I owned two XDs for years.  They were flawless the entire time.  I now prefer Glock, but neither has thus far proved to be any better than the other in terms of accuracy and reliability.

Don't understand the XD hate myself.

My oldest son and I each have an XD45 w/thumb safety.

I carry mine every day and shoot it regularly, sometimes I shoot USPSA with it.
My XD45 has never let me down. I've never seen or heard of a JHP bullet that won't feed in an XD45!

I really think that the XD has a better trigger than the Glocks, at least in stock form.

Also for me the XDs point better than the Glocks. I've owned two Glocks a 22 and a 34,
both were fine pistols, especially the 34.

A pistol is just another tool. The XD45 fits my hand, I shoot it well and it's very, very reliable.

Can't find anything wrong with that.

I guess people don't want to force themselves to pull the gun down to get their sights lined up instead of just holding the gun naturally.

Different people like different things, and a grip angle preference has nothing to do with the size of someone's hands.

As to the build quality, my XDs were no worse than my Glock.

You do realize one of the big selling points of a gun is how good you can handle it right.

I purchased my XD .40 Subcompact about 6 years ago after shooting it and a Glock back to back.  I thought the feel and trigger of the XD was better.  It's not the most prestigious of my guns but I've never had a single malfunction with it.

For whatever reason the XD's seem to have 100% less "glock leg" and " glock grenade"  but obviously it's just croation crap when compared to glock perfection.

The 1911 has a grip safety as well.  However, if I use the high thumb position that is in current vogue, the web of my hand does not disengage the safety grip safety.  This may be a problem, or not, of the XD as well.

I choose to sweep my thumb down as I disengage the thumb safety and keep it low with my left thumb on top of my right on the 1911.

The only thing I found strange with the XD was that the recoil changed significantly as the magazine emptied.  This to me felt rather weird.

I like my Glock 22  I like my XD9 better.  I don't understand what's "better" about the Glock. The XD's ambi safety is a huge selling point for me being a left. Using my index finger for mag changes on the Glock isn't a deal breaker, but its less natural.   FWIW, I think people see the XD slide as chunk because of the smaller size of the XD's grip. Whereas on a glock, the slide would have to be the same size as a shoebox to seem large compared to a glock grip.

Anyway, I adapt pretty well. My USP has a giant grip also. I love it anyway.

Every single XD that I have been around that have higher than average joe round counts have had issues, along with issues right out of the box.

I have seen it with all calibers in the XD line and the 9 and .40 in the XDM line.

This right there, along with me not liking the feel is enough to make me stay away from them as a personal preference.

If the Glock had a grip safety, I'd think it was a much safer gun.  Quite a few of the reholstering incidents I read about might not have happened.    Further, those that think a safety can get in the way when you're in a stressful situation, would be more accepting of a grip safety as it's an automatically disengaged safety, like all the other safeties Glock claims to have.

The XD has a noticeably high bore axis, giving it some negative points in my book.

XD fan right here and not really giving a shit what people say about them. Tried a Glock .. not my cup of tea. I like Sigs better but the XD just fits better.

My thinking on the whole Sig vs Glock Vs XD is, people LOVE to justify how they spend their money. It is easier to piss on the opposition rather than just say "Hey, I tried them all and this fits best" ... Not as dramatic, fun or flashy.

But what the hell do I know?

I wouldn't say I'm on board wit the hate...

But I won't buy one, for a few reasons:

-The grip safety must be depressed to even cycle the slide, much less fire it. Completely unlike a 1911's grip safety too.
-Springfield won't sell much on the way of spare parts (basically have to send the pistol back to their shop for some things)
-Bore axis too high (IMO) for a striker-fired pistol. I own a Sig P228, that has a high bore axis, but for a reason. Glock, Sigma, and M&P showed that a striker-fired can and should have a low bore axis...and the Sigma is, well, a Sigma. No problems with Glock (though I'm not a huge fan, either) or M&P (no real experience with 'em though, but I like the "feel," the reviews, and the theoretical advantages).

If I were given one? I'd thank the giver, shoot the pistol a little, but I'd probably wind up selling it or trading it off later.

For the money, I'd prefer an M&P or a Glock, if I'm sticking with striker-fired. Since most of my trigger time on handguns is with Glock by now....I may not be their biggest fan, but I shoot them pretty well and it makes sense in my view to keep at it with something I already know.
