I spend 12 hours a day in my car and was thinking satelite radio may make those 12 hours pass a little faster. Anyone have any suggestions to which is a better choice and why?

I have had XM for several years and like it. Both are starting to play more commercials. Make sure you get a model that you can move from the car/truck to the house. I find I use it alot more when I can move the module and listen to it at different places.

I would give precisely the same answer with regards to Sirius.

Sirius. I have had both and that's my pref. I guess it just depends on what you like to listen to. I went with Sirius initially because I listen to Stern, but NASCAR is on Sirius now also, so that's another bonus for me. Best thing is to go to both websites and listen to the channels that you are interested in and make your decision based off of that. If you still can't decide, as much as I hate to say it, XM does hold it's signal better in heavily forested areas and under bridges/tunnels, etc. from my experience. Hopefully Sirius can do something about that soon. And for what it's worth, there are many rumors floating around that the two may merge in the near future, so any decision may end up being a moot point anyway.

It is "Sirius" and I've been with them for over three years.  They have great programming and they DO NOT have commercials on the 60 + music channels.  I like them.  I have it in both cars and I listen to it on my computer at work and on DIsh network at home.

Signup online for a free trial of each, then choose.

I've been with Sirius for a few years, and love it.  It's worth it just for my 3 to 4 hours in the car daily. Favorite channels: Octane (20), Alt Nation (21), Faction (28), Blues (74), Patriot (144, Conservative Talk)

I cant comment on sirius, I have XM and enjoy it. I asume they have similiar channel lineups.

XM does hold its reception through short tunnels and even in Manhattan between the skyscrappers.

I have Sirius also.  I like it and would recommend the unit that you can take out of your car and put on your desk or something.  You can also play Sirius on your computer if you have an account.

I have Sirius, never listened to XM.

If you spend that much time in your car, satellite radio will definitely help to pass the time.

I have a removable that I can listen to inside the house or in the car but find myself listening via the internet most of the time instead of popping the unit out of my car.

Same with work, I listen from the net.

I have both. Longtime XM user, newly Siriused..... I prefer XM due to the better signal strength and more agreeable play lists for the pop channels, i.e. 40's 50's 60's and 70's plus Deep Tracks and Top Tracks.

If you're younger than me, you might find the heavy metal stuff better on Sirius.

In typical arfcom fashion - I have both...
I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
I only listen to the music programming though.

But if I had to choose only one I'd probably go with Sirius.

I have found that the music channels on both are basically similar. The difference is the talk/entertainment/sports.

Look at both sites on the 'net and then make your decision. I have Sirius in my car, but the girlfriend has XM in hers. We like both so we're keeping both.

Both music selections totally beat commercial radio but I think that XM has too many commercials on their talk stations. (I don't know enough about Sirius.) One of the main reasons I keep XM is to avoid the commercials and great reception even in the mountains.

Sirius. Way better sprots programing and all around better talk radio shows.

I had sirius for about a year (until my receiver was stolen last winter). The ads were just starting on Siriius. I also noticed that the music stations seemed to have a pretty limited rotation of music. They were starting to sound like they were only playing the "top40" of whatever category of music the station was dedicated to.

Sirius. I have both and listen to Sirius a lot more than XM. One of the best channels is Patriot 144 (if you like talk radio).

Sirius.  Better programming.  Better sports content.  No additional fees (i.e. no "premium" channels on Sirius).  Less commercials.

What ads? The only ads I have heard are on the programs that it just relays, and so you get to listen to the ads on that program -- it would be abit hard to remove them.

Ads paid for on Sirius generated content I have NEVER heard.

If it was magically 1993 and we had satellite I would say get Sirius for Stern, but alas it is 2007 and you must have XM for O&A.

I have owned both and I kept XM, better across the board IMO

I love Sirius.  Even if you hate Howard Stern, he has two channels and fills them with really bizarre radio personatites.  One guy with a a weekly show thinks he was abducted by aliens since he was a child, and answers questions every week about different alien species.  Here's a pic and his website

I am extremely happy with Sirius. Go to Sirius.com and get a 3-day online trial to sample the various channels. If they don't have a channel with what you want to listen to, be it talk, music, sports or news, then it's not for you.

XM has commercials on 4 music stations, and obviously on talk stations.

I've never heard a commercial on an XM music station, but then again I don't listen to the top 20 channels.....if I wanted the top 20 rotation I could select from a dozen FM stations.

I personally think Sirius is better, especially if you like alternative music.

Have access to both Sirius and XM to form this opinion.

Obviously, if you're a diehard Howard or O*A fan....that decision is easy.

I really don't listen to either of them.

XM has such a big advantage in the R&B genre, its really no competition.

I see a few say XM has commercials, I have never heard a commercial, not one. I listen 10+ hours a day.

XM commercial music channels are in the 20's. Only about 2 per hour, and thye are clear channel stations. XM lost a lawsuit about the commericals.

I've been a satisfied Sirius listener since 2003.

I never listened to Howard or Bubba until they showed up on satellite last year.  Now I'm hooked on both.

Plus, Sirius has NRA News every weekday evening and Tom Gresham's Gun Talk every Sunday.

Gotta go with XM. I had sirius in a few rental cars and their Metal channels are very good. XM though has decent metal channels but the O&A and a 24 hr hockey channel, what more can I ask for??
