Holy shit.

I just upgraded yesterday (been a Comcast OnDemand/DVR customer for over 11 years).

Holy fucking shit. How in the hell did I stick with the old system for so long? This thing is several orders of magnitude better!

I feel like I just upgraded from a Windows CE 3.0 based tablet to a brand new iPad Pro.

+1. I've been contemplating it, but I'm already unhappy with my cable bill.

I've got one X1 Box on one system, and a Tivo and an Xbox on on a second.  The video quality of the X1 is much better than the previous Comcast DVR, and is about as good as the Tivo.  As far as the features are concerned I didn't find anything Superior on the X1.  As far as talking to the TV, I've been doing that with the Xbox for a while, so I wasn't really excited about the feature to begin with.
If you use a Tivo, there really isn't any reason to switch.  If you have the last Comcast DVR, you do want the upgrade.  You can just call Comcast and they'll send it to you, with a return shipping box for the old DVR.

plus the receiver is RF operated so you can mount it in another room or in a cabinet with out IR repeater. you can also use your smart phone as a remote. one of the boxes has 6 tuners in it

The On-Demand offerings (free and paid, both) are staggering, with a very good, fast and intuitive search and browse system for finding programs.

A vast majority of live programs can be "restarted" if you begin watching part way into them - just hit a button, and it's playing it on-demand for you from the beginning.

It's got six tuners, and you can be recording four or five programs, while watching yet another at the same time.

Nearly any program can be watched as on-demand starting the day after it initially aired, for four weeks or so, even if you didn't record it to your DVR.

The DVR has at least a terabyte, so room for lots of shows.

It's expensive after the introductory teaser rate, but it really is a great cable box/DVR combo, with great features.

Record 5 shows at one time, while watching a 6th channel in real time.

Watch the recorded shows on any TV in your house that has an X1 receiver (which doubles as a cable TV receiver / ondemand receiver) - $9.99 each/month

Guide system and ondemand system are vastly improved. If you're used to Netflix or Amazon Prime's interface, it looks very similar.

Oh, and I managed to go from 2 x DVR + 2 x DTA receivers + Digital Preferred Plan + HBO to 3 x X1, all of the premium channels + disney on demand package and am now saving about $65 per month.

I'm getting more for over $700 less per year.

Good info.  Thanks.

Can you watch a DVR program in any room in the house?  Say I have the DVR in the living room, can I watch a recorded program in one of the bedrooms or the den?

It is better in many ways but I did notice the quality seemed to degrade slightly over my old box?

I thought it was just me but others in the family said the same without prompting - yes, the box settings match the TV 1080P/1080P

Had it last year, got rid of it since it's a waste for the amount of TV we watch. Roku with a few paid apps and we have the same as what we used on x1 for 1/3 price.

Yeah, I just got an X1 when I moved into my new home.

The old style Comcast OS has been unchanged for over 15 years

This one is pretty close to what you see with the kind of interface you have with Xbox, Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Agreed.

It isn't so much that it is better than Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, it's that it finally is pretty much as good.

Of course they are. I'm painfully aware of this. They are, unfortunately, the only option I have for wired cable. I figured if I could get a better DVR/On Demand experience, perhaps I could forget, for a little while, how inferior and borderline-appalling the Comcast experience is.

It took the installer about 3 hours of fucking around with splitters and amplifiers and shit.

In the end, it cost me $0 and it works on all of my TVs.

I keep getting ads about it, but @ $166 / month for internet, HD cable + box, I am not sure I want to add on more charges.

My new bill will be ~$186 (plus taxes / fees)

$160 - All premium channels (including PLAYBOY, but I'm reluctant to watch it), 260 channels total + 300 mbps internet
$9.99 x 2 for extra X1 receivers
$5.99 for Disney Family Movie on demand package (Mrs. Undefined's one request. I'm not dumb enough to refuse my wife a $6/mo request)

This was the most expensive package available.

Do you have all the bells and whistles?

No phone, one level up from basic cable and I think the basic internet package.
