I lucked out a couple of weeks ago when I was cutting brush. Reaching to pick up a pile, I yanked my arm back when I saw the yellowjackets buzzing around. Looking closely, I saw that the brush was laying on their nest in the ground that I had earlier passed over a couple of times with the lawnmower.
How I managed not to get stung is a mystery to me... |

This is one of four hits I took. Three benedryl, a we'll see where this goes. Last wasp hit, I ended up laying on the floor wishing for death and feeling like I was going to puke and poop myself. I feel like someone is sticking a big guage needle in all four spots and doing so over and over and over... http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt19/critterhuntr/Photo_8_16_zpsb2807b4c.jpg Pffft. Only 4 stings?
Man up. Hell everything I "discover" a nest of the damn things it's waaaay more than 4 stings.

If every time you get stung, the reaction is worse, you need to talk to a physician. This is the boat I'm in. Reaction gets far worse each time. Most recent one the pain went up the arm all the way across the chest and breathing was affected. Dr. said "You need to start carrying an epipen and stop getting stung."

A guy I work with went to move an old bicycle leaning against his shop and found some. He cupped his hand under the seat and picked the bike up, when he did he grabbed a yellowjacket nest the size of the seat. His hand was still puffy Monday morning. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

THIS! One may have been stung in the past with no major reaction, HOWEVER, that previous sting may have lowered your tolerance and the next one could be FATAL. |

Expect throbbing pain all night. Try taking some ibuprofin, etc. before bed. I took a paper wasp sting on the back of my bicep today. Hurt like a bitch for 15 minutes and then went away. The nest was on the underside of a palm branch. I am a beekeeper and honeybee and wasp stings pale in comparison to yellow jacket stings (at least for me). All stings on the face are very painful (doesn't matter what it is). |

Anaphylaxis can kill you very dead ... I've known two guys who aren't here any more, and one who carried an epi-pen. (died of unrelated causes) |

I saw one of those bastards flying around the ceiling in my bathroom yesterday. I was able to shoot it down with the spray from a can of tinactin where it landed in the shower acting all confused. A capful of listerine dumped on it killed it dead in a couple minutes. When I turned on the shower late last night it washed down the drain.
Listerine makes wasps unhappy. |

Got stung by a YJ last year when cutting trees for firewood. I started running when I saw the nest disturbed. One of those fucker's chased me for fifty yards and got me in the elbow. That tree is still laying where it fell.
And, just yesterday while rebuilding the deck on my mower, I went into my barn/garage and while getting a part, a fucking mad Dirt Dobber nailed me in the forearm. It stung worse than the Yellow Jacket. Now I itch like crazy were the swelling is. Need to put some more ointment on and take a couple more Ibuprofen. |

I substituted for my elementary school PE assistant Friday. 7 periods of 3rd or 4th graders with 75-90 students per group. We had one class period where we didn't have any stings, the other 6 we had at least one sting.
One poor 4th grader was stung twice by hornets. And this was even after we swept and cleared the playground with carb cleaner. |

F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG the pain is horrendous. Got an epipen, but I think the bennies took care of swelling. Is there anything except for diesel to take this pain????????????? I have heard, that meat tenderizer works to neutralize the sting. Last time I was stung I put Clorox on it and it helped a lot. MPD165 |

You will probably feel a knot at sting sight for a few weeks.
Yellow Jackets contain a different protein in their sting than others. This can cause someone to have a different reaction to a YJ sting compared to wasp or bee. And to the poster who got stung by a dirt dobber you are only the second case of this I have heard of, my daughter being the first when she was playing with it. They are apparently very hard to get riled up. |
