After reading the Whataburger praise on here lately, I decided I'd give them another try. All I have to say is have some of you lost your taste buds in a bad industrial accident???? They're still horrible.
I had my first Whataburger in Hamburg, AR in 1979 and it was about the best fast food burger I'd every had. Over the next year or so every time we went though there we got one. Great burgers. Then for the next ten years we weren't near one. In 1990-92 we were through Shreveport a few times and would stop by a Whataburger there. Still good burgers, not quite as good as before but still good I didn't have another one until 2004 or so and wished I hadn't. It didn't taste or was made the same and was bad. I felt like I had wasted my money. Figuring everyone might have a bad day I tried another couple over the next couple months when I was in town. Still bad so I gave up on Whataburger. Last week we were in town, hungry and beside a Whataburger so we figured we'd give them one more try. Blech. Bad. Terrible. A dried out tasteless piece of crap. Never again. Then yesterday I found the Whataburger I've been looking for for 35 years only it wasn't at Whatabuger and won't do 99.99% of you any good. It was at a local place in Bryan, Tx called Carter Burgers. Get mayo added (it's not really mayo, though) and the best I can remember it tasted just like the fantastic 1979 Whataburgers but made with 1/3 pound of what tasted like fresh meat. My taste buds were smiling. |

Only had whataburger once and they doused that poor burger in mustard. Admittedly I'm not a huge mustard fan but have no problem with mustard on burgers usually.
I'll chalk it up to one bad experience, the burger itself had potential if they backed off on the mustard. Liked In n out, love 5 guys, according to that one graphic culvers rounded out the regional burger final four and I'm not a huge culvers fan. |

If that's a Whataburger and you got one hot enough to melt the cheese you've done better than I have since '92. Mine wouldn't have even warmed the cheese up and evidently it's required that the bun be dried out and cold. |

Seriously, I probably eat 2-4 a month whenever I'm in the states and can only remember getting un-melted cheese a couple of times and never a dry bun. |

If you like mayo on a burger, your opinion is invalid. What's wrong with mayo on a burger? A lot. It's okay on a Maid-Rite or CFS sammich, but a cheeseburger all the way is the realm of mustard. The fact that Whataburger does this by default proves their superiority. |

http://rmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/post/fatburger-to-open-second-iraq-unit/Fatburger.jpg I tried WB a few times when work sent me to TX for 6 weeks. It was ok but not worth starting a thread..... Or even talking about your lunch. Tasted like a bigger version of a Sonic burger to me. If you haven't tried Fat Burger, its pretty good for a chain burger joint. Agree. Fatburger is better than Whataburger...but I'd never turn either of them down. We don't have either of them here. |

I like what a burger & I like culver's too. Whats your preference OP Pretty much all the fast food burgers have went down hill. The local Sonic mostly has a good burger (hot with melted cheese and soft bun that has been steamed by the heat of the burger) but the burgers at some of the other Sonics around here have burgers that suck. I used to love Whoppers but they've went the same way of other chain's burgers. Barely warm over cooked meat, cheese that's not melted and a dry bun. I had mostly lost my faith in fast food burgers until I found Carter Burgers. |

Whataburger has great CHAIN FOOD BURGERS. Are they the best local joint in town, probably not unless you live in a shit hole. Good, and consistent is what they do, they're better than McD's and BK but definitely not the greatest burger ever! This. Know what it is and like it as such. I've had better burgers, but I haven't found a better, faster, and widely available burger. |
