Ok, so far the only thing that will show a picture is ekiga. So I know the webcam is recognized by ubuntu. But ekiga doesn't help me, because I need to be able to record video to a file.
It doesn't seem to be compatible with camorama. Nor does it want to work with luvcview (even though I followed the directions to a TEE of another person who claimed that it works out of the box with ubuntu 8.04). Cheese wouldn't even install. I even tried installing the same uvc drivers that person did, even tho they're now "historical" and "decrepit," according to the terminal warning message. For the record, I'm using ubuntu 8.04 with a logitech 9000 pro God this is so frustrating. Any advice? It'd be most appreciated. |

Can't help you, but am curious as to why you haven't upgraded to 8.10 The livecd I installed from was specifically compiled to work with EMC2 (CNC controller software). I don't think it's recommended to upgrade to 8.10, but I'll check again. Also, the actual error I get when trying to run luvcview is: Unable to set format: 16. Init v4L2 failed !! exit fatal |

The gentleman in the link HERE says that his worked out of the box with Ubuntu 8.04.
There are a few commands, and some output images. Can't hurt to compare, and see if yours were similar. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm not a Linux guru. Hopefully, the link will help in some way. Good Luck! |

Thanks, but thats the one I used. eta: As I said, I know the camera works with ubuntu 8.04, as I can use it with ekiga (Instant messaging software). So its got to be a problem with luvcview. right? |

Well, I read where someone else had the same error code and someone told that person that "16" meant the device was in use by something else.
So I unplugged it, restarted linux, and now it works. I don't understand it but I don't care! Now to see if I can get a higher framerate than 4 or 5. ![]()
