Pretty much this... but the lie is that it's some big "island larger than Texas that you can see from space!" Further lies are that if we (first world countries) ban plastic straws, it will do fuckall to solve the problem.

The reality is that there ARE a lot of plastics getting into the oceans, but almost all of it comes from the third world, because they can't handle the trash. The stuff ends up in rivers, then it gets out to seas.

It's a problem, but not like they're telling you, and the solutions (guilt) they are trying to put on us aren't solutions at all.
