[ARCHIVED THREAD] - You lose all your guns in a terrible boating accident. What do you replace them with? (Page 1 of 2)

Yes, this again. Even your EDC was lost, ripped off by the shark that grabbed your shorts and just missed your legs. All your guns are gone. Your girlfriends' guns are gone. Your wife's guns are gone, etc. You're starting from scratch. You can specify any current production gun or any gun ever made, assuming it's actually available. I'm in the middle of finishing my Fold AR as my EDC rifle, and now KelTec has announced their SUB2000 in 5.7x28mm. I've already switched my carry rifle from 9x19mm to 5.56x45, do I switch again? |

How many are we trying to replace here? lol I'd start with a G19 gen5 MOS and probably build another 5.56mm AR on a $28 Anderson lower. (Do I still have all my spare parts? )I wouldn't switch to any non-pistol 5.7x28mm unless you're going for maximum concealment. Although they're larger, 5.56mm and .300 BLK weapons are better in all other respects. Compared to a Sub 2000 I don't believe they are necessarily larger. May actually be smaller. Do they even offer the Sub 2000 in SBR lengths? (I've seen some suppressed ones that stowed folded, but anything you have to manipulate to make ready to fire is bad for deploying from concealment.) I definitely wouldn't get one chambered in 5.7 and in 9mm it sucks compared to the good old MP5. 5.7x28mm is ideal for true select-fire PDWs and that's where it is most relevant. |

Sig 365x for carry Flux 365 Raider “PDW” Rattler Nicely done, maybe JP 14.5” Custom 2011 Benelli M4 or similar. Add some 22s for training and plinking and that would cover me for anything I could think I’d need a gun for. Mostly my set up now or at least will be once k finally build out the flux. |

a .22lr rifle of some sort a Mossberg 12ga pump a 9mm pistol mid-sized with a rail for a light 1 of each and be done. Sometimes I think that'd actually be nice. as for what pistol? hmmm...I really really liked my Mossberg MC2, love a G17 but harder to conceal, and laugh if you will, but the XD9 mod2 fits my hand like a glove and shoots incredibly well. |

Specifically, let's look at the .223 Wylde Fold AR vs the 5.7x28mm SUB2000. Folded, the Fold AR is 1" longer than the SUB - a wash. Weight, in gun and ammo, for the Fold AR, is significantly heavier than the SUB. Now, there are things I can do to lighten the Fold AR - have the barrel turned down to featherweight pencil, replace the gas block w/ one that actually can turn off the gas & thus go to a lightweight carrier & no weight buffer, chop a few inches off the handguard - but most of the remaining weight is fixed. Cost - I could likely buy a 5.7x28mm SUB, when it hits the distributors, for less than the needed changes to the Fold AR. Cost in ammo for the 5.7 would be far higher per round than the 5.56, I'll grant. The Fold AR is more than a grand just in the upper before any changes. Speed of deployment, since you brought it up - the Fold AR is a bit slower than a SUB to deploy. I do have a folding pistol grip on mine, which adds an extra step, but there's also the whole side latch. I could carry the SBR, but then I'd lose it for unplanned trips out of state, and the external ballistics would suffer. A braced pistol would solve that issue, but the whole point of the EDC rifle in a bag is to go past No Pistol signs - which braced pistols can't legally do. Effect on target - points to 5.56x45mm, no question. Even the cheapest 5.7x28mm does ok out of a 16" barrel, however. Doesn't have the reach of 5.56, but I'm not engaging miscreants at any serious distance. Pistol magazine commonality - used to have it somewhat between the Glock 23 & Gen 1 SUB in .40, then the Glock 26 & Gen 2 9mm SUB. Currently, I'm not OCing a 5.56 AR pistol, just CCing the 26. The SUB in 5.7x28mm uses FN 57 pistol mags, so I could go that route. School zone legality - the Fold AR was built as a 16" pistol, so without the stock attached, it can legally ride through school zones in states where I hold an LTC/CHL - it can also sail into beer stores. The SUB, as a rifle, can't legally do that. As Federal law, the school zone prohibition is clearly unConstitutional on its face, but would suck to get jammed up over it. |

I’ve never seen a FoldAR, except on the internet. The whole unfolding (plus the more complex latch) really kills it for me, unless I’m a downed pilot recovering it from my survival gear, or something. Anywhere else I’ve got enough room to carry a short weapon fully assembled. If I’m going to be slower about it, I may as well pin a conventional upper onto my lower. That’s much less expensive and I don’t need a hinge to keep the parts in close proximity. I think mag interchangeability is overrated. It’s nice, sure, but in no way essential. For example, I like Glocks, but loading hi cap Glock mags is a chore. Double column double-feed mags are much easier to load, and more favorable than commonality IMHO. (Unless you’re scavenging like crazy.) Have you shot SMGs with 9mm Glock mags versus MP5 mags for a week straight? Game changer. lol Five-seveN mags load easily though, and it’s also easy to find 20 or 30 round capacities. You’ve got me on the weight issue. Yeah 5.7x28mm weapons and ammo are much lighter. No doubt. Your particular use case brings up a lot of interesting concepts. You seem to be highly concerned with legalities, which is very responsible of you. Sounds like the SUB is perfect for what you’re wanting to do. |

Sounds like the SUB is perfect for what you’re wanting to do. Legalities are probably becoming increasingly less relevant, but still carry significant penalties for white men. For everyone else, Glock switches, borders, not paying income tax, not really an issue. ![]() I just don't find loading Glock sticks by hand all that onerous. Certainly not as easy to load as a double feed mag, but I couldn't afford a week long SMG class anyway. Does sound like awesome fun. You can certainly carry your AR disassembled, but if you're carrying a 16" barrel, your broken down AR isn't going to fit into a small backpack or sling bag. Ruger PCC, SUB 2000, S&W FPC, Fold AR, & the various barrel takedown systems like the Dolos are your options to get Title 1 rifles down to 16-17" broken down. |

I'd replace them with the same exact ones or the closest equivalent if they're out of production. A few I wouldn't bother replacing because I kind of don't care for them anymore and was likely going to sell them off soon enough anyway to downsize. The only exception is I'd replace my AR with a 5.56 AK. Because I'm already planning on doing that. |

Quoted: Interesting choice. What mag are you going with? PSA seems to be a solid choice. Both for AKs and mags. I'll see. No shortage of good 5.56 AK mag options nowadays. Trying to stick closer to "Russian pattern" stuff. Probably a Krink, maybe a 102. My brain says 102, but my heart says Krink. |

EDC would prolly be an HK VP9 BUG S&W 432UC AR15 would be an LMT MARS-L MRP with a few barrels AR10 would be an LMT MARS-H MWS with a few barrels Bolt action would be a Sako TRG-42 .338L Beretta A400 Benelli M4 SBS CZ 457 .22 Savage 29 .22 Winchester 61 .22 ...for starters |

This: Attached File A .22, a .38 and a shotgun. Anything else is hateful. Think of "the children...." I'll remove the assault mag extension on the shotgun and install the wooden plug, 'cause you don't need more than 2 for deer.
