A thought occurred to me the other day wile re-packing the jeep for winter...

If humans exposed to freezing temperatures die from freezing to death, would not zombies also simply freeze to death an incapacitated state in the winter. this would them make them much easier to kill further incapacitate.

My logic is as follows... when winter comes and the temp drops below say... 0 degrees F (plus windchill), the tissue that makes up the undead flesh would more or less freeze just like the flesh of a living human. I realize this would probably not "kill" them because when it warmed up they would thaw and continue being a threat. but, wile frozen, then would not likely be able to move very well thus making it possible for one to simply walk around killing them by what ever means makes there pants wet.

how does the hive mind feel about this theory?

Dr. Wil Smith in I am Legend found a severe fever that produced the zombies/creatures in his movie.......likewise, most of the 28 days stuff was about a virus....rage......new series, The Walking Dead also referred to it starting as a virus.....

Fever may compensate for otherwise room tempurature body and keep them going.  I submit that they are impervious to freezing weather and simply operate at room temperature, whatever that may be.....interesting question though as the zombies/infected people in 28 days were allowed to starve out and die....implying that they could die.

Yes zombies will freeze in the winter.  This applies to any type of zombie from the classic voodoo zombie to rage or solanum virus zombies, even to many of the ill-prepared humans that zombies are used as euphemisms for.

In The Walking Dead, they never identify the cause.  But, traditional zombies (re-animated corpses) don't achieve homeostasis.  They don't regulate their body temperature, so yes, they would freeze solid after being exposed to ambient temperatures below 32 degrees F for a significant period of time.  In The Walking Dead graphic novel, and in the works of Max Brooks, they do, in fact, freeze solid in the winter, only to thaw out and resume being a threat in warmer weather.

yes I forgot to add.  traditional zombies once frozen could be dangerous thousands of years if thawed.

They freeze below -10.

Something else i have thought about... I figure if there is 4 or 5 feet of snow someone with snow shoes would have an advantage over a zombie trying to wade through the snow. Easier to get away and easier to shoot.

Read WWZ?

They went out during winter to find the frozen ones and used pick axes while they could.

The Zs thawed in the spring and began moving again though

But if you need to do brain damage to re-kill them, then a freeze-thaw cycle would turn their brain's into mush.
