I have been using my debit card a lot this month.
I check my balances all the time, tonight a charge for $1.87 , then a minute later they put the $1.87 back

I call my banks security fraud division, yep the $1.87 was a verifying test followed by 2 separate attempts at large amounts.

The 1st one was $511.43 from a google wallet ?

The 2nd was also google wallet for a lessor amount , $423.47

My bank caught both of them

Bad part is now they killed my bank card and are sending a new one

I have 3 other accounts linked to this one so I can transfer to those accounts and use those debit cards if need be..

I hate thieves

I wonder if it was that chinese restaurant I went to yesterday, skimmed my card?

Stop using the debit card.  Mine is linked to an account that never has more than $200 in it so I can still get some cash if needed but if stolen I'm not screwed.

I'm not screwed either, my bank like all banks eats it when it comes to fraud.
If some thief gets into your account or uses your CC debit card # you lose nothing.

+1   This.

My debit card is a shopping/online card with enough to do the immediate buying needed, not a direct line to my checking/savings account.

True, but the difference is that when your CC gets misused, no money gets taken from your bank account.  When your Debit Card gets misused, you lose that money until you can get the situation resolved.

If you did what we're suggesting, the fraudsters would get nothing for their efforts.

The bank doesn't eat the charge.

The merchant eats the charge.

Get a credit card. You get to use somebody else's money for a month for free and if there are fraud charges your bank account is untouched.

I'd rather not lose my money in the first place. Credit cards solve that problem.

I only use my debit card in stores I trust and really hate the fact that you can't get a debit only card anymore. They could clean out your bank account.  The big advantage of credit cards is that it's not your money they're spending.

Which means it depends on how quickly you notice it.  Which could be days later.

Ugh.  I hate thieves.  My eBay account was hacked many years ago and some asshole in China thought it'd be nice to order thousands of dollars worth of stuff.  Thankfully eBay recognized what happened and I didn't lose any money.  I don't know how it happened but I assume it was probably a phishing e-mail I fell for.

My bank had a skimming problem a couple months ago.  The thieves hit two ATMs and of course, mine happened to be one of them.  Again, though, the bank caught it quickly and I didn't lose anything (even if they had, my bank would have reimbursed me) but they cancelled my debit card and issued a new one.

Thieves suck.
