im looking at building a .308 AR for next hunting season and I'm wondering who offers the best around? I'm looking to buy just the lower receiver, the build will take a few months but I want to have a accurate deer/bear possibly elk slaying machine when it's done.

That's actually where I was planning on going to pick one up. How do the Rainer arms lowers stack up? I'm leaning towards Mega but I'm open to other options.

Never built either but they look damn nice and Rainier arms seems to put out nice gear.

They have assembled lowers for about $300, does anyone know what LPK is in it? I'd want to drop in a Geiselle trigger and a different stock.

If I were building another one, I'd just get a PSA upper and lower receiver set.

I've never seen a receiver fail from normal use.  Accuracy will largely depend on the barrel and trigger.

I'd save money on the receiver set, and focus those dollars on a good barrel, a good trigger, and other components.

Just a safety note ... say you have two AR's, one in .223 and one in .308 that you're target shooting with ... don't dare mount the .308 thinking it's a .223.

Complete DPMS rifles are really cheap now, and the one I shot was very accurate.

Put a good trigger in one of those, and you would be money ahead, and very happy I think.

You won't win any interwebs bragging rights, but you will hit anything YOU are capable of.

Just remember there are two patterns for .308 lowers, slant cut for AR-10 and rounded cut for DPMS.  Also most companies who have a matched set don't work with other receivers, IE a mega lower will only work with a mega upper.

make sure the upper and lower are the same brand.
i have a PSA upper and a DPMS lower and they do not work together.
the bolt hold open is cocked at an angle against the upper, not allowing the bolt to traverse backwards.

Interested in a .308 AR, but know nothing about the .308's... what do you mean by slant cut and round cut? I know some use different magazines...what is the most common style of .308 AR's, and has the most aftermarket support?

I like the MATEN, the Aero, and the Rainier.

The billet ones have a tendency to be properietary.

So I'll probably get one of the maten and one of the aero lowers, since aero is designed to work with other dpms pattern uppers. Plus its not bad for being a forging, and it will cheaper because of it.

I just wish mega would start making monolithic quadrails again, all the are making right now is monolithic dickmod.

Aero precision makes one of the only .308 upper receivers with a forward assist. A lot, if not most, make the uppers a slickside.

Daniel Defense makes a quad rail thats decent looking but 400 dollars, troy makes one thats cheaper but its troy, samson makes one but its ugly. I think KAC makes one too but probably takes a proprietary 200 dollar wrench .
