Just a question about ARFCOM etiquette. I see threads labeled "offical" from time to time (e.g. "OFFICIAL Ferguson shooting/rioting thread" or "Breaking: Man in DALLAS hospital with possible ebola **OFFICIAL EBOLA THREAD**"). Is there anything more to making a thread "official" than declaring it in the title?

Sorry OP. Only official Team Members with an officially approved avatar can post official threads. Prior to officially starting an offical official thread, a majority of Site Staff has to approve the Officiality in a simple official majority yea/nay vote. All Officially sanctioned Official Threads must have an Official Title in bold. Official. -p. |

Ok, that answers my question, thanks everyone. Mods, please lock before I get my angus peppered by GD or get banned for crossing some **OFFICIAL** line. Don't officially lock it down yet. There may be fun in the future!! ![]() This is how we get threads not going like OP envisioned. |

People can proclaim their thread to be the "OFFICIAL!" thread for whatever, but it doesn't mean anything. On rare occasions, like with the amount of Ebola threads, mods or staff may decide that enough is enough and make one thread the catch-all. You'll usually see a thread title edit by a moderator or staff to indicate as much. Election night, presidential debates, etc. are typical for that sort of thing. |
