Apparently Wolfgang Schmidt, the ex-Stasi chief, is also envious of the NSA:

Holy shit, you guys are sad.
Putin. The man who throws political dissidents in jail. The man who has the political opposition's head guy in prison for 5 years because he was becoming a nuisance. Yeah, I'm sure he's actually having difficulty spying on his own citizens... |

Maybe, but I doubt that Putin has had nearly as much success convincing the people that it's fucking good for them, and they should vote for more government control. |

Putin ins't really envious of Obama, he's using his public perception as a weapon to mock the US. No one here wants to live under Putin - he's a symbol of Russia getting back on her feet, in a day where the US is lying on her back. |

Like Putin convinces people of very much. He just does it. Do you think he tried to convince anyone that it was good for them when he jailed Alexei Navalny? |

The first posts in this thread, however, come from people who appear to believe that Putin is telling the truth.
You haven't read all the Putin worship threads. There have been people saying that they wish Putin was our President, because of how awesome and manly he is.

Would it kill you to show a little tolerance and understanding for homosexual Arfcommies? |
| Interesting. The government agents on this site keep saying Snowden gave Russia all of our secrets along with saying the NSA doesn't spy on citizens in this country unless they have a terrorist connection. Now Putin is saying that they do spy on everyone. Since Putin who apparently has all our secrets is confirming this, does that confirm the NSA is spying on all citizens and the government intelligence agents here are proven liars? I think so. It is pretty sad that Putin is more honest than our own government. |

As bad as things are here most can't imagine just how horrible it would become if someone of Putin's quality got into office.. |

Yeah, I'm sure he's actually having difficulty spying on his own citizens... The Russian government does not have the same technical means as the US government. Both have the same intention. Naturally, the head of the government which lacks the enormous technical means envies the leader of the government which does have those means. |

Could someone point out where he said anything of the sort?
I don't see that in the transcript. ETA- Disregard, found it. Link to video, which you should be Facebooking. |

Putin does it as well.............his just doesn't face the same scrutiny that it would here Oh? And precisely what "scrutiny" has our government faced over this? The people should be up in arms with pitchforks and nooses. Instead, people are shrugging and treating it like a joke. |

Yeah, I'm sure he's actually having difficulty spying on his own citizens... Our Nation created it's own true propaganda. Spend 200 years hawking "land of the free", have it undermined because our government really only means land of the free enough for government work. |

How did we find out about it? Someone blew a whistle ( or made themselves a traitor, depending on your viewpoint) and now everyone knows about it and most people ( rightly so) are mad as hell about it. See anything similar in Russia lately? No, and you wont.......Such things in Russia dont see the light of day like they do here
Whether or not the govt faces real "scrutiny" is up in the air, but it has been aired out and is under the scrutiny of the public eye, and some Federal judges have ruled parts of it unconstitutional............that kind of scrutiny. You wont get that in Russia Quoted:
